The institution, which works to enhance the life and work of the poet, will participate in a series of celebratory activities in San Juan and La Serena.

The University of La Serena, through its Mistralian Center, will be part of the various activities that will be carried out on the occasion of the 130th birthday of our Nobel Prize in Literature.

Some of these celebration events will take place from April 6 to 8 in the city of San Juan, Argentina, organized by the Argentine Chilean Cultural Institute for Promotion and Development. On the occasion, the Director of the ULS Mistral Center, Dr. Rolando Manzano will present the book he authored “Gabriela in Coquimbo” (Editorial U. de La Serena) and will offer a conference on the life and work of Mistral.

In addition, the Mistralian Center will receive recognition from the Serenense municipality for its valuable cultural contribution that preserves the legacy of the teacher's life and work. This delivery will be made in a symbolic tribute called “Music for Gabriela”, to be held on Thursday, April 11, from 21:00 p.m., at the Municipal Theater of La Serena.

The academic will also give the talk “Gabriela Mistral and her relationship with La Serena” at the “First Book Festival: commemoration of the 130 years of Gabriela Mistral.” The presentation will take place on Tuesday, April 23, starting at 18:00 p.m., in the Plaza de Armas of the regional capital, on the occasion of International Book and Copyright Day.

Next Thursday, April 4, at 18:00 p.m., the presentation of the book “Caleta Los Hornos: images, memory and history” by researcher José Aguilera will be held in room I of the Gabriel González Videla Historical Museum (Matta 495, La Serena). The invitation is open to the community, with free entry.

The concert began and culminated with the works of the Austrian, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who manifests his jubilant spirit through the Overture of the Bufa Opera 'Cosi fan tutte' ('The School of Lovers') and the Symphony No. 31, K 385, called 'Paris', due to the place where it was premiered in 1778. Likewise, the 'Suite for small orchestra' by the national composer and National Music Prize Winner (1948), Enrique Soro, was presented.

For his part, the Serenense soloist, Cristóbal Rojas Salinas, who is currently triumphing in Argentina with the Mendoza Philharmonic Orchestra, delighted the public with the 'Trumpet Concerto in E flat major' by Joseph Haydn, a pillar in the concert repertoire for the instrument due to the innovation of the time. On this occasion, the artistic-musical program seeks to represent, through a varied repertoire, the different states of the soul, under the title: “A journey through emotions.” A musical journey that seeks to captivate the public with a great selection of works and the talent of brilliant guest artists.

The “Pinacoteca de Valdivia” exhibition will be inaugurated as part of the 38th anniversary of the University of La Serena.

Various works from the permanent collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Valdivia make up the sampleValdivia Art Gallery”, which will be open to the community from March 19 to April 12 in the Exhibition Hall of the University of La Serena.

This selection of works is part of the permanent exhibition of the “Valdivia and its River” painting contest, organized by the Municipal Cultural Corporation of Valdivia, which has as its theme the free interpretation of the natural or cultural landscape, both urban and rural, of the city of Valdivia.

The techniques used are varied and range from oil, acrylic, latex, tempera, watercolor, pastel and collage, to mixed techniques. Additionally, as part of the collection, six engravings by the prominent visual artist Germán Arestizábal will be exhibited, who has carried out copious visual production in graphic expressions, illustrations and engraving, in addition to constant work in university teaching.

The free entry exhibition will open this Tuesday, March 19 at 12:00 p.m. and is part of the 38th institutional anniversary. The public can visit it from Monday to Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 13:00 p.m., and from 14:30 p.m. to 18:30 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 13:00 p.m. and from 14:30 p.m. to 17:30 p.m. in the Exhibition Hall located at Benavente 950, La Serena.
