Malebrán maintained that this activity aims to give back to the community for the knowledge acquired in their studies at the ULS and abroad, and to give a special attraction to the piano concerts, since it is not common in the region to see two musicians playing. the same instrument. This concert also seeks to connect the regions of Atacama and Coquimbo, since both artists performed in the recent Chamber Concert Series in the Third Region.

The performers will seek to surprise attendees through great compositions that marked an era. “The works we perform belong to the period of neo-romanticism in my case, and in the case of Agnieszka, she will play music by Fryderyk Chopin, a Polish composer who belongs to the period of Romanticism, and in the end we finish with the Hungarian dances of Brahms, which It is also from the period of Romanticism,” said ULS academic Javier Malebrán.

For her part, Agnieszka Korpyta brings for this piano concert compositions by a great European character, from her distant Poland. “In this concert I am going to play works by Fryderyk Chopin, since he is a Polish composer I thought it would be a good idea to play his music. We also play four-hand works by Brahms, which are close because it is music from the Romantic period,” she added.

oral health

Professionals from the Dentistry career will delve into different topics focused mainly on the prevention of dental diseases.

Starting on Tuesday, August 26, the community in general will have the opportunity to participate in a cycle of 4 academic talks, which will address, in depth, different pathologies that can occur in the mouth, starting with oral health in adults. older and continuing with such important topics as the care of baby teeth in children, oral cancer and the relationship between oral health and diseases as widespread as diabetes and hypertension.

As commented by the speakers, it is common to see on a daily basis in dental consultations that patient visits occur once the discomfort has occurred and the professional focuses on “treating” the problem. However, for the academics of the Dentistry program at the University of La Serena, it is essential to begin this very relevant topic in prevention, guiding the population toward “what should be done” and “at what time.”

That is why, together with the Extension Directorate of the same institution, a cycle of academic talks will be presented that will seek to bring dentistry closer to the general population, through conferences as relevant as: “Oral Health in the Elderly.” ", "Why is it important to take care of baby teeth in children?", "How to prevent oral cancer and know when to consult in time" and "How does my diabetes and hypertension affect my oral health."

Academics, Mg., will participate in the activities. Cristian Oyanadel, director of the ULS Dentistry program; Mg. Paula Arriagada, dental surgeon; Mg. Javier Quilodrán, dental surgeon; and Matías Letelier, dental surgeon specializing in implantology. These dentists will present their different topics in 4 talks to be held on the last Tuesday of each month, on the following dates: August 26, September 23, October 28 and November 25. The schedule for these conferences is from 11:30 a.m. to 13:00 p.m., and they will take place in the ULS Exhibition Hall, located at Benavente 950, La Serena, with free entry.

“We cordially invite you to attend these educational talks. They are going to learn things they don't know. They will become aware of how to take care of their oral health and how it relates to their general health. We have already commented that the mouth is part of the body and the importance it has. Therefore, everyone is cordially invited,” emphasized Matías Letelier.

For his part, academic Javier Quilodrán explained that "the mouth is considered by people as something external to the body (...) it gives the impression that a mouth is walking down the street alone and they do not take its real value, considering that everything starts through the mouth, a child is born and the first thing he does is cry and cries through the mouth, a gesture of attachment to the mother is breastfeeding that is given through the mouth, when one is in love one expresses affection through the kisses, and even when one dies the last thing he does is breathe out and he breathes out through the mouth. So if we consider that the mouth is the center of everything we are, and that a large part of who we are is manifested through the mouth, we have to consider that it is a super important part of our body.”

So it is a beginning, a beginning that is a little more advanced than a basic course, but I would like to know much more about applications, about the Internet, about what Word is, what Excel is; There is still a lot to learn and the truth is that computing advances more and more quickly every day,” said Ricardo Workins.

certification workshop 2For her part, Silvia Rivera, who knows about training and workshops given by the Extension Directorate, has expressed the great interest she has in learning and the opportunity to participate in activities like these, in which distance has not been an impediment to knowing and learn about digital topics. “I travel from Vicuña (…) I love this workshop because I like computing. All the topics discussed here are good and the teachers are very kind, very gentle and they teach you (...). I love learning, I can't be without updating myself on all the things that are happening, that are progressing every day in every sense, so I like to keep up to date," added the retired teacher, who since 2001 to date has accumulated around 50 diplomas and certifications.

Urquieta points out that La Serena occupies a very special place and therefore this concert has a special meaning. “We people from Serena carry something in our skin and when we are away we want to come back and present the work that we really like to do, because one can also have the luxury of presenting a program of works for oboe and in La Serena, there are people who do it.” to appreciate,” he said.
