August sexuality talk

The audience was made up of university students and adults in general.

In a pleasant conversation between an expert in couple relationships and the audience, the fourth conference of the “Psychology and contemporary society” cycle was transformed: “Myths associated with human sexuality and that would interfere with people's quality of life.” This was dictated by the academic of the Department of Psychology of the University of La Serena, Mg. Claudio de La Fuente Pizarro, in the Exhibition Hall of the study house.

In the activity, the speaker analyzed the main beliefs that are formed around sexuality and how these can affect personal or couple relationships. “People's beliefs fundamentally point to a certain number of times that people should have sexual relations in the week or month, an issue of frequency; Another myth associated with what I am talking about also aims to conceptualize the idea of having sexual relations only at the level of genitality and fundamentally what has to do with penetration or the sexual act itself," was part of what was deepened by The speaker, who due to his theoretical studies at the Family Therapy Institute of Santiago and his experience with couples psychotherapy, has gathered a significant amount of general information, which on this occasion he shared with the community.

"Another myth also associated is the idea that in the area of being with the other, in the loving encounter as I have defined it, the man always wants to have sexual relations, which from my perspective will depend a lot on the context that facilitates or promote being with the other and this is not only an issue that has to do with man; and another myth in relation to this topic pointed to the routine (...) and in that sense if I conceptualize that in routine there is also variety, if I extrapolate this to the field of human sexuality, I can also discover a series of emotions, behaviors, that make my experience and the loving encounter with the other person much more enriching,” summarized de La Fuente.

The audience showed a lot of interest in the topic, asked questions and discussed with the professional the different points discussed and the doubts regarding them. For his part, the institution's Nursing student, Diego Valenzuela, highlighted this and the latest activities organized by the ULS Extension Directorate. “I think it is important for people to be empowered and to have that knowledge to apply self-care, especially in the area of sexuality, which often has taboo topics. I believe that the importance of this cycle of conferences is that, independent I believe that the issue makes people aware and can take care of themselves, which is the most important thing,” he stated.

It should be noted that this cycle is organized jointly by the Extension Directorate and the Department of Psychology of the house of higher education and continues with various talks on psychology topics, until November 26. old age conference

The speaker managed to dispel doubts and stimulate her audience in the prevention of old age, through familiar language and with simple examples.

Nearly a hundred people - a heterogeneous and transgenerational audience as defined by academic Carmen Retamal - attended the conference called “Aging-being: Aging as a revealer of truths” that the Master in Social Gerontology held in the Exhibition Hall. ULS.

The activity, which is part of the School for the Elderly organized by the Extension Directorate, brought together various interested parties, including nursing students, older adults and people who know and admire the exhaustive work that the professional does in improving the quality of life of the elderly, highlighting their knowledge of this issue and how it simply addresses a common problem in our society.

“This type of conference teaches one how to treat the elderly in aging, which is where they suffer the most (…). Carmen Retamal is a person who has it in her blood and there should be many people like that (…). I see the joy of the people, everyone understands and everyone leaves happy, because they learned something more,” said Olinda Sánchez, nursing technician.

Rubén Herrera, who constantly participates in the activities carried out by the institution, spoke about the importance of the topics that were addressed in this conference and how these positively affect his mentality and his confrontation with life. “I thought the conference was very good, because it gave us a lot of knowledge about how to maintain our body at this age, in which we enter a stage of losing certain faculties, so all of this produces depression, but one has to look for the way to compensate for these deficiencies with other activities (…) and that has given me a very good awakening of spirit, I feel very good,” added the assistant.

The speaker, Carmen Retamal, said she was very happy with the great and varied call that there was. Likewise, due to his long experience in gerontology and currently in psycho-gerontology, he indicated that it is very important to be able to help society with tools that allow them to acquire healthy aging in the future, through a familiar language and that all auditors can understand. “I find it very positive that young people and older people come to listen to a conference of this type, where what we propose are such basic, simple things, but no one has ever put them in an order to think that this will help with aging good. So, I think that was the positive result of this, having presented it in simple language (...). Several told me that a little window opened in their thinking to realize that they were not doing anything and that they had to do things,” said the academic.

For those who missed this activity, aimed at all audiences, especially the elderly, it is reported that Magister Retamal will soon carry out a new activity. This is the workshop called “Memory Stimulation, Level I”, in which it is necessary to register to be eligible for a place.
