The programming of this event includes the participation of 7 university publishers that, together with Ediciones UC, will participate in FILUNI 2019.

The Publishing House of the University of La Serena will benefit from funds that will allow it to finance the attendance - during the entire duration of the event - of two people from the Publishing team at the III International University Book Fair (FILUNI), which will be held at the National University of Mexico (UNAM), in Mexico City, between August 25 and September 2 of this year.

The project corresponds to an initiative that is framed in the agreement signed by the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and the direct beneficiaries, among which is the University of La Serena. Said study house (PUC) applied for the ProChile contest, Exporter Promotion Project, which grants 50% of a project. The other 50% is financed by Chilean university publishers.

The programming includes the participation of 7 university publishers that, together with Ediciones UC, will participate in FILUNI 2019, setting up a stand in which different publications from these publishers will be exhibited, hoping to publicize the production of Chilean universities, strengthen ties - through co-editions - with the rest of the university publishers in Latin America, to position and market Chilean university books in Mexico and the rest of Latin America.

For Alejandro Abufom, in charge of the ULS Publishing House, this initiative “is part of the international projection plan that we are developing in our Publishing House. Attending these fairs is very important because of the contacts that are made there.” And, furthermore - adds Abufom - “it complements what we are already doing on the web, by gradually placing our entire catalogue, in digital and paper versions, available to readers around the world, on different global platforms, such as , Amazon.”

With the aim of generating a meeting space between eighth grade students around the discussion of ideas and experiences that can be developed through the contents of the different workshops that will be held on this occasion, in addition to participation in the Mathematics Olympiads, the third version of the JOMAT ULS day will be held, an activity that is sponsored by the Vice-Rector's Office for Research and Postgraduate Studies of the university and will have 34 students from different pedagogy careers as part of its team of volunteers. of the institution.

For the director of the JOMAT ULS Program and academic of the Department of Mathematics, Professor Diego Contreras, “this activity allows us to strengthen the teaching identity of the pedagogy students who are part of the team of volunteers, who prepare weeks in advance in the planning and development of the different workshops that take place during the day. In addition, it allows the teachers of the educational system who accompany their students during the activity to return to the University, demonstrating the high level of commitment that exists on the part of the graduates with their undergraduate careers.”

Among the scheduled activities, the morning session includes two didactic workshops focused on the contents: “Pythagorean Theorem” and “Multiplicative Principle in Probability”, where the objective is to bring mathematics to everyday situations that in Most of them are not treated in the classrooms of educational establishments. On the other hand, in the afternoon the Mathematics Olympiad competition will be held, where the establishments will participate in the different knowledge tests that will culminate in the Grand Final, crowning the new champion JOMAT ULS, which had the winners in its Previous versions at Colegio Santa Teresa de Illapel (2018) and Liceo Santa Marta de Vallenar (2017).

With the aim of showing what was developed in classes through the different techniques seen in the subject of Cinematographic Language of the Journalism degree at the University of La Serena, taught by the teacher and filmmaker Kamila Véliz, the students of said chair presented their Cinematographic Pitch of documentary projects focused on various social problems.

journalism2On the occasion, the students of the subject, which is taught for the first time as it is part of the renewed plan of the ULS School of Journalism, presented their documentary projects based on the construction of a dossier and audiovisual teaser of each initiative. , which showed themes from the contingency of feminist movements, responsible pet ownership, the visibility of the trans community within the University, among others.

The Director of the School of Journalism, Mg. Cristian Muñoz valued the activity, pointing out that they “allow young people to be linked to complex issues, which are part of our reality. These relevant practices end up being relevant to the graduation profile that we want to give to the degree.”

Regarding the process, the teacher and filmmaker Kamila Véliz pointed out that “as future social communicators, the objective of the class is that they can communicate through cinema, that they can do it through cinematographic language, take those elements and communicate either to through reports, documentaries, through the different genres that cinema can deliver.”

Academics from the university participated in the presentation of the results of this evaluation, which is contextualized in the new regulations established by Law 20.903 that creates the Teaching Professional Development System.

In a meeting organized by the Integrated Management Unit of Pedagogies (UGIP) of the University of La Serena, the institutional results obtained in the National Diagnostic Evaluation of Initial Teacher Training, carried out in December 2018, were presented. all the students of the pedagogy courses of the university, who were twelve months away from their graduation year.survey2

In general terms, the results achieved in the didactic evaluation stood out, where better figures were obtained in relation to the national average. 

The Coordinator of the Initial Teacher Training Area of ​​the Center for Pedagogical Improvement, Experimentation and Research (CPEIP), Rosa Miranda, was the one who delivered the results and indicated that “the University of La Serena must be able to study these results in greater detail, identify the most important shortcomings and work on training plans and the way in which they are taking care of the way in which there have been fewer achievements.”

Given this evaluation, the work proposed by the University is to work individually with each pedagogy career through its authorities in order to generate improvement plans in the areas with greatest deficiencies according to the results obtained.survey3
