Within the framework of the 33rd anniversary of the University of La Serena, the Extension Directorate will inaugurate its Exhibition cycle with the exhibition ''Divergent'', by the authors Danilo Espinoza Guerra and Iván Zambrano Downing, both academics at the School of Art from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, who will present a selection of drawings, engravings, sculptures and photographs.

According to Danilo Espinoza, the work will fundamentally show two projects: one addresses the problem of Mapuche women living in the city and the other is directly associated with the issue of missing detainees and the role of women in society. ''What I do is impregnate papers with soot using a matrix that allows generating images, the work I develop is similar to that of the stencil, the basis of the technique is in engraving. The technique developed is humorography,'' Espinoza said.

The works have been organized according to the various themes and techniques developed by Espinoza and Zambrano in recent years, where they also include a series of photographs that investigate the erotic and the feminine, taking as reference the fantasies of the male world.

''Divergent has to do with understanding that they are proposals that are born from a common reflection and end up being absolutely different material work and there they distance themselves and diverge, that is why we think of that name, they are connected in the origin, in the problems, in the ideas that were discussed to propose the work, but materially they are proposals that are absolutely different from each other,'' commented Espinoza.

This exhibition will be open to the public in the ULS Exhibition Hall (Benavente 950) from March 19 to April 17, 2014, on Mondays from 10:30 a.m. to 14:00 p.m. and from 15:30 p.m. to 18:00 p.m., and from Tuesday to Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 14:00 p.m. and from 15:30 p.m. to 19:00 p.m. The inauguration will take place on Tuesday, March 18 at 18:00 p.m.
