film club

The Arts, Cultures and Heritage Network worked on this new publication that collects the history of film club in Chile and that also includes a manual for universities that want to replicate this practice that seeks to expand the social fabric of cinema and that contributes to the meeting of people through movies.

Cineclubism and Education, is the book that starting today will be available for open and free download through the page of the State University Network (uestatales.cl). This publication highlights an activity that has been almost invisible in the development of culture in Chile, but which is nevertheless fundamental as a space for discussion and reflection on film production and its relationship with what the country is experiencing.

This is what Guillermo Jarpa, coordinator of Artistic Creation at the University of Chile, believes, who indicates that film clubbing is a practice that “appeals to the gathering of people around cinema as an invitation to live a common experience on two levels: that of exhibition and reflection on cinematographic art. Therefore, its sine qua non condition is that it be participatory and meeting, being a driving force to address general issues typical of all audiovisual citizen culture.”

Film clubs were born as self-managed spaces in which people meet to exhibit and discuss cinematographic works, establishing horizontal dialogues between all participants. In Chile this practice arises precisely in universities, which opted for these spaces that even gave rise to film festivals that last to this day.

This is why the Network of Arts, Cultures and Heritage seeks to rescue this history, highlighting, above all, the material produced in Chile: “For the universities of the State it is important to promote film rescue because Chilean cinema is part of the country's film heritage. . It is through this experience of collective emotion that cinema is transformed into knowledge,” says Leonardo Seguel, director of extension at the University of Bío-Bío.

Along the same lines, Fernando Gaspar, director of Artistic Creation at the University of Chile, highlights that “the rescue, valorization and dissemination of memory, the arts and particularly cinematographic memory, is essential to promote more critical and reflective communities.” about our history and also to value the importance of those who have made these works, because in addition the exercise of rescuing cinematographic memory means the valorization of our history as a country.”

Along with this publication, the network has promoted a series of activities, aimed at promoting film clubbing. Among them is the holding of a national meeting of film clubs that will take place at the University of Bío-Bío in May 2020.

Hand in hand with the most famous operas in the world, the professional cast invites the public to rediscover the feelings of 'Love and Tenderness'.

With a varied program, three notable guests and two concerts in the Elquino territory, the University of La Serena Symphony Orchestra is preparing to offer its tenth concert of the year inspired by the emotions of 'Amor y Ternura', led by the most famous operas from the classical repertoire. The evenings that will say goodbye to the month of November invite the public to remain united through music and experience these performances as a moment of solidarity and reflection, due to the great social outbreak that has marked these last few weeks.

This season's musical journey will be led by one of the most unique Chilean batons, this is the great Eduardo Browne, artistic director and head of the Camerata Universidad de Los Andes and former director of the Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Band ensembles of the Department of Music. from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Chile. As a Guest Conductor he has directed concerts and operas in the United States, Chile, Venezuela, Peru, Argentina, the Philippines and Malaysia, and this month, the community will have the opportunity to delight in his conducting a colossal Lyric Gala.

In Browne's own words, the feelings of 'Love and Tenderness' that the tenth program of 2019 will cultivate reveal that “music and the arts in general have given a very great relevance to what love is and that relevance has passed to be a kind of cliché. It is very difficult to sing a song or write poetry that does not have to do with love. I believe that the emotions of love and tenderness are one of the most central axes of the human being,” says the conductor, confessing that he feels grateful for the invitation to once again lead a concert in the Region of the Stars: “if an institution invites me to directing for the second consecutive year is because there was good chemistry and that fills me with happiness,” he expressed by telephone from Santiago.

Eduardo Browne is not the only artist invited to this journey through the states of the soul. They will be accompanied on stage by two great figures of national and international recognition, possessors of a vast career due to their musical work; These are the soprano Patricia Cifuentes López (Chile) and the baritone Eleomar Cuello Calles (Cuba). “I have had the honor of working with them several times, I have done operas and concerts with them (...) I am very happy to work with Patricia because she is one of the great sopranos in Chile and Eleomar is, certainly, a voice ascending of the highest level,” says the guest director.

The renowned soprano is grateful for the performance of this concert, despite the social outbreak and the contingency in which the country has been involved for more than four weeks: “I am very happy to be able to perform these concerts because it has cost a lot to make music again with everything that is happening and is understood (…) Furthermore, being able to do a concert of love and tenderness responding to the theme, with everything that is happening in the country, is very exciting; It touches a deep chord within you because you are more sensitive. Addressing this type of repertoire in these circumstances makes us a little vulnerable,” she elaborates.

For his part, the Cuban performer is very happy about the invitation that the regional group has made him to be part of their 2019 season: “I am very happy that they have invited me to participate in these concerts and, for the first time, sing. in this region and together with the wonderful Universidad de La Serena Symphony Orchestra. I know about their impeccable career through other colleagues and the important work they do”

This journey to the senses can be seen in the Performing Arts Room of the Palace Cultural Center (Aldunate #599) next Thursday, November 28 at 12:30 p.m. and in the Aula Magna ULS (Benavente #980) on Friday, November 29. this month at 12:00 hrs. Both presentations are free entry and without withdrawal of invitations, until the total capacity of the venues is reached.

The traveling exhibition “Sembrando Frijoles” will be available until October 30, organized by the Frijol Mágico Cultural Association, which is part of the exhibition cycle of the University of La Serena. This traveling exhibition seeks to provide a relevant space to emerging talent and those artists with a long history in regional illustration, in addition to motivating new talents to group together and professionalize their love for drawing in general.

beans 2In this regard, the Director of Liaison with the Environment and ULS Extension, Mg. Carlos Varas highlighted: “I think it is essential to understand that as a University we have to get closer to citizens, to people, because these types of activities sometimes become invisible; However, the talent we have at the regional level is impressive. There are even people from other institutions working here and I think that is essential to create the necessary networks to be able to move forward.”

For his part, Javier Fredes, manager and director of the Frijol Mágico Cultural Association, emphasized: “the invitation is to the entire community, to people who are interested in art and this world. Understand that drawing can be a profession. If you are bad or you are good it no longer exists, what you have to understand is to look for its style. So, if you are drawing or have a croquera or something, this is the opportunity for you to see that things are being done in the region and that you can reach a higher level. So take advantage of seeing this exhibition, reading the curatorship of why these works are on display, it will help you a lot to know what you can do later.”beans 3

Young people are always very motivated to participate and develop the talents they have, and in the city and the region there are many talents, so having these groups, these groups that welcome them so that they can have a platform to expose their talent, it seems to me very good".
