ULS and Polish Institute of New Environmental Technologies sign scientific cooperation agreement

The agreement was signed by the Rector, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés, and the director of the institute, Dr. Tomasz Warezak, in a ceremony in which the mayor Hanne Utreras, the deputy minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Katarzyna Kacperczyk, and the ambassador of that country in Chile, Aleksandra Piatkowska.

An important international scientific cooperation agreement was signed by the University of La Serena and the Institute of New Environmental Engineering Technologies of Poland, the first of its kind in Chile and which seeks to promote the transfer of technology and exchange of academic experiences.

This agreement was signed by the Rector of the ULS, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés, and the director of the institute, Dr. Tomasz Warezak, in a ceremony held at the Extension Center of the state campus and in which the mayor Hanne Utreras, the vice minister, were present. of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Katarzyna Kacperczyk and the ambassador of that country in Chile, Aleksandra Piatkowska, together with the honorary consul Jaime Pozo and representatives of the Polish delegation that visited the Coquimbo Region with the purpose of strengthening commercial, educational and cultural ties .

sign agreement 2In detail, the cooperation agreement aims to carry out common scientific projects; the exchange of experiences and technology; the organization of research and teaching internships, and consultancy and training within the exchange of personnel of the experimental divisions; the exchange of researchers to carry out studies and participation in scientific conferences; obtain new sources of financing for organizational and scientific-research activity; and undertake organizational activities and projects for the purpose of commercialization, promotion and support of technology transfer.

Dr. Nibaldo Avilés highlighted the visit of this delegation and the signing of this agreement that “once again brings us closer to this country and allows us to establish links to strengthen research, internships and, above all, academic collaboration. The truth is that it leaves us with very good expectations because we have a lot to work together, there are topics of common interest in the areas of Chemistry, Engineering and the Environment.”

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Katarzyna Kacperczy, valued the signing of this important agreement, indicating that “it is only the beginning of a long-term collaboration, because we have many areas and many institutions that want to collaborate with you. Education is very important for you and also for us, it is precisely the basis of economic and social development. So my desire for this collaboration that begins today is to be able to serve the University, but also the entire Coquimbo Region.”

In addition, Mayor Hanne Utreras stated that “the University of La Serena, for our regional development, is a fundamental protagonist, both for our professionals and our future technicians; Therefore, these types of agreements strengthen our bases to be able to continue working, especially in technical matters, which is a great challenge that President Michelle Bachelet asked of us.”
