The activity was organized within the framework of the institutional anniversary and is part of the events aimed at highlighting the contribution of academic and non-academic staff to the development of the ULS. The ceremony took place in the Pentagon Room.

A total of 23 people were distinguished for their permanence in the corporation, deserving recognition for 20 or 30 years of civil servant or academic work.

The award ceremony was headed by the Vice-Rector for Economic and Administrative Affairs, Mg. Lilian Alvarado, who on behalf of the Rector, Dr. Luperfina Rojas, congratulated the winners. “We are here to honor officials, academics who have dedicated 20 or 30 years of their lives to serving this noble institution. Therefore, it is a privilege to be able to pay tribute to each of you who have contributed significantly to the enlargement and success of our university community,” said Vice Chancellor Alvarado.

The authority also referred to the trajectory of the attendees and the contribution they have made to the institution, “over the course of these years they have witnessed and participated in countless changes and challenges in the academic and administrative panorama of the university. They have also been pillars on which our university has grown and undoubtedly strengthened. Each of you has played a vital role in meeting institutional objectives, whether through teaching, research, administrative management or logistical support. You are the true essence of our university community and without your contribution our path to excellence would not be possible,” he stated.

Dr. Marcos Corgini was one of the people honored at the solemn ceremony. He has been working at the institution for 30 years and serves as Director of the Mathematics Department: “It is the continuity of a long-standing job. There have been 30 years in which I have developed practically all my academic activity, except for three years where I was in another institution, but always linked to the university. It is a pleasure and also a gratitude to be given a distinction (...). but that's for everyone. The years are of no merit either. I hope to have contributed to the institution as appropriate as an academic and, well, I am just grateful for giving me a space to work.”

Meanwhile, Fabiola Jamett, an academic in the Department of Chemistry, has been part of the ULS for 30 years: “You look back and say, oh, my God, how far I have walked. But I ask myself if I really managed to sow and if it has been harvested. And I feel like it is, because there are a lot of students who come back and see me again and say hello and everything. And receiving recognition from the university also helps you feel that you are actually part of the university.”

Hérman González, who belongs to the Gabriela Mistral Campus Library unit, says that during the ceremony “I began to remember, strangely, when I entered, many memories crossed my mind, colleagues, former colleagues who have died, and that is a “It has a very special meaning because you don't take it into account until you are at the ceremony, and even the choir gave me goosebumps.”

María Angélica Muñoz works in the Accounting and Budget Department. It has been 30 years that for her “has been a very big growth because I started in the Supply Department.” And she adds that “it has been quite exciting on this occasion to recognize all the work one has had and the dedication one has given as well, everything one has given for this university. Especially for the department, for all the responsibility we have had in this department, which is quite important.”
