OSULS Christmas Concert moved hundreds of people in the Cathedral of La Serena

The magical evening put the finishing touch to the 2023 season of the professional cast; inviting the community to enjoy the activities that will take place in January during the XXXVIII Musical Encounters of La Serena. 

Before a colorful and receptive Cathedral of La Serena, hundreds of people gathered to participate in the long-awaited Christmas Concert presented by the University of La Serena Symphony Orchestra, the ULS Symphony Choir - conducted by the academic and director Valeska Cabrera - and outstanding lyrical voices. All under the impeccable and bold general leadership of the Argentine teacher, Natalia Salinas.

The evening filled the temple with color and emotion with an assertive musical proposal that amazed those present, offering the Overture 'La Clemenza di Tito' and 'Exultate, Jubilate', for soprano and orchestra by W. A. ​​Mozart; ending with a colossal piece by J.S. Bach: 'The Magnificat'. As a surprise, the Latin American baton invited the audience to sing 'Silent Night' with the ULS choir and Patricia Cifuentes (soprano I), Carolina Guede (soprano II - ULS Choir), Gloria Rojas (contralto), Felipe Gutiérrez (tenor ) and Sergio Gallardo (baritone bass), the star guests of the last concert of the year.

“This great Christmas concert is part of the musical activities that the University of La Serena develops throughout the year and that seek to bring culture and the arts closer to the community of the Coquimbo Region, which is part of our mission as a public university. . The presentation of the Orchestra and Choir was a true gift for everyone, a massive activity that allowed us to show, once again, the talent of these groups of our institution,” said ULS Rector, Dr. Luperfina Rojas, who valued the presence of “families, children and older adults who were able to enjoy this magnificent presentation.”

Esteban Ahumada, who attended with his family and friends to see this long-awaited concert, commented: “these concerts are something that as a family we do not miss; In fact, we look forward to the day when we come and enjoy the Christmas concerts. On this occasion, we were joined by some friends and family who traveled to spend the holidays with us and we were truly amazed by everything these outstanding musicians offered.”

For her part, Rosario Mena said she felt very excited: “these dates touch me deeply and are very important for our family and starting with this beautiful concert has been wonderful. Everything was perfectly done, each of the choristers and musicians filled this night with magic and joy and this special place like the Cathedral of La Serena, which has exquisite acoustics to enjoy this type of music. “I feel very grateful for this gift that all the outstanding musicians of our region offered us.”

Along with the long-awaited Christmas Concert, the OSULS put the finishing touch to its 2023 season and a new year full of activities, concerts, fascinating repertoires and renowned guests; thanking the company, loyalty and presence of each of the attendees who were part of the programs and repertoires offered throughout this period.

The special event had the valuable support of the University of La Serena and the Archdiocese of La Serena, in addition to financing from the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage, as it is part of the Network of Regional Professional Orchestras.
