With a broad participation of directors of libraries from CRUCH universities, the second ordinary plenary session of the commission was held at the University of Magallanes.

With the purpose of advancing in introducing improvements to the management of university libraries, the Advisory Committee on Libraries and Documentation (CABID) of the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH), held its second plenary session of the year last November 8 and 9 at the University of Magallanes (UMAG), Punta Arenas, an event in which the head of the Library System of the University of La Serena, Mg., participated. Hector Garcia.

During the plenary session, the commission approved the update of the CRUCH standards for university libraries, including the new principle of inclusion, thus reflecting a commitment to diversity and equity. This principle will be incorporated into the expanded version and improvement of the standards, thereby improving library policies and practices.

In addition, the growing importance of the digital identity of researchers was highlighted, an instance where a document was generated that compiles the state of the art in a technical glossary, generating a base document to be able to address this issue as a construct that allows improving visibility and reputation of researchers, and how it is articulated with Open Science projects and repositories. Both documents are in the final stage and will be available on the CABID website during 2024.

Regarding the work carried out during this session, Mg. Héctor García, pointed out that "as the CRUCH Library Commission we are committed to methodically advancing improvements that allow us to generate inclusive spaces and services in our institutions, improving access to information and promoting inclusion within our academic community. Therefore , the approval of principle 12 that will be integrated into the standards of Chilean university libraries is an achievement that will be beneficial to our users.”

He also added that “the Research subcommittee is working on a series of documents related to Open Science: the first is the one that addressed the topic of the Digital Identity of Researchers from the perspective of libraries, which will allow this topic to be addressed in a better way. the teams of the different university libraries.”

The next CABID session, scheduled for May at the University of O'Higgins, will be a new opportunity for the University of La Serena to demonstrate its leadership and commitment to the advancement of university libraries in Chile.
