Volcano XII, a simulation exercise organized by the Chilean Army, began at the ULS

Regional, provincial and community authorities, heads and directors of public services and representatives of the Armed Forces of Order and Security participate in this exercise. Foreign delegations are also part of it, seeking to learn about and collect the Chilean experience in this type of training. 

In order to perfect the coordination procedures for disaster risk management between the different institutions and organizations that make up the National Disaster Prevention System, the Chilean Army carries out version XII of Volcano, an activity that allows training different entities of the community involved in natural disasters.

At the opening ceremony held in the ULS pentagon hall, regional, communal and provincial authorities were present, as well as the Rector of the University of La Serena, Dr. Luperfina Rojas, who served as host of the procedure that will last until Friday, the 24th. November and which takes place in the premises of the study house, specifically, in the Hexágono room.

The exercise takes place in a fictitious scenario under computer simulation, in which the complex effects of different large-scale catastrophes are modeled, such as volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, floods, forest fires, among others, which could occur almost simultaneously in the region.

The exercise is supported by the simulation system for management and training -SIGEN- constructive simulation software of the tactical operational training center of the Chilean Army War Academy.

In the intervention of the Presidential Delegate(s), Galo Luna, he pointed out that “having this type of exercises in the region is relevant, since it allows us to be prepared for any incident that causes instability in the community. It is very important to know and be certain that we are protected and aligned in the event of any catastrophe in the area,” he said.

At the end of the ceremony, the Head of the Tactical Operational Training Center of the Chilean Army War Academy, Lieutenant Colonel Jorge Iglesias, explained the operation and operation of the Volcano XII exercise, encouraging the participation of those present and explaining how The different people involved had to carry out tasks at their workstations.
