Faculty of Humanities holds graduation ceremony and titles 122 new professionals

The graduated professionals belong to the careers assigned to the Faculty and which brings together the 2023 cohort. 

In an emotional event held in the Aula Magna of the University of La Serena and with the presence of university authorities, directors and coordinators of schools and careers, academics, family and friends of the graduates, The Graduation Ceremony was held for the new professionals of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of La Serena.

On the occasion, the Dean, Dr. Cristián Noemi, addressed those present expressing “my most sincere congratulations to each of the graduates. This moment marks the end of a period of dedication and effort, and the beginning of a new chapter full of possibilities and challenges. Their dedication and perseverance deserve to be recognized, and the community I represent is proud to have talented and committed professional graduates.”

Likewise, he gave his congratulations to the parents and families who have been a fundamental part of this trip. “Your unwavering support has been a pillar on your path to success as graduates. This achievement is, without a doubt, a joint effort and a satisfaction that should be shared and celebrated as a family.”

In his speech, the authority referred to the complex scenario that young graduates had to face in their training process, a period marked by the social outbreak that began in October 2019, the Covid 19 pandemic and, in the field of knowledge, the emergence of Artificial Intelligence, opening new opportunities. “Fields such as natural language, neural networks, ethics, semiotics, data science and AI systems programming will emerge as new sources of employment,” said the Dean, adding that “the arrival of AI marks a new chapter in technological and labor evolution. Despite significant challenges, history demonstrates humanity's ability to adapt in a technological world. The key is to address, starting today, the challenges in an ethical and responsible manner, ensuring that AI benefits all of society through adequate regulation.”

In the first part of the ceremony, their titles were presented to the graduated professionals, belonging to the careers of Pedagogy in Spanish and Philosophy, Pedagogy in Differential Education, Pedagogy in Basic General Education at La Serena headquarters and Ovalle headquarters. Pedagogy in Musical Education, Pedagogy in Early Childhood Education, Pedagogy in English and Bachelor of Music.

Subsequently, it was the turn of the graduates of the Design, Psychology and English Spanish Translation careers.

As is traditional, in each class of graduates, the Faculty of Humanities distinguished those who have achieved the highest scores and the best academic careers. These recognitions went to Javiera Godoy Alfaro, from the Pedagogy in Spanish and Philosophy degree; Bárbara Parada Villalobos, from Pedagogy in Differential Education; Bárbara Ahumada Carrizo, from Basic General Pedagogy at La Serena headquarters, and Tiara Vega Chacana, from Basic General Pedagogy at Ovalle headquarters.

Francisca Paganini Narváez was honored for her Pedagogy degree in Musical Education; Angie Carolina Díaz, from the Pedagogy degree in Early Childhood Education; Yesenia López Berríos, from Pedagogy in English; Gabriela Cortés Collao, Bachelor of Music; Fiorella Canztanzi Peña y Lillo, Design Mention Equipment; Aracelli Largo Díaz, from Psychology and Martina Zelaya Rojas, from English - Spanish Translation.

In addition, at the ceremony, the Psychology graduate, Aracelli Largo Díaz, was honored with the University of La Serena Award, which highlights the best graduate of the class in each of the four faculties. The ULS has instituted this distinction to recognize the academic merits of the student, in this case, by obtaining the best grade average among the graduates of the 2022 class in the Faculty of Humanities, with a grade of 6.5. This award was presented by the Rector, Dr. Luperfina Rojas.

On behalf of all the graduates, graduate Jesenia López Berríos, from the Pedagogy in English degree, delivered a farewell message, expressing part of what she experienced during her university days and the emotions felt when accomplishing an important goal and starting a new stage in which they begin to realize their life projects.
