Teaching Improvement Unit holds first meeting to form learning communities

These spaces seek to enhance the mission and vision established in the Educational Model of the University of La Serena.

Within the framework of the work developed in the First Reflective Meeting: An integrative look at teaching and curricular management in remote emergency mode, the Teaching Improvement Unit, dependent on the Teaching Directorate, has held the first meeting with teachers of the health area interested in participating in the formation of learning communities with a SoTL (Scholarship of Teaching and Learning) approach.

The event had the participation of teachers from the Kinesiology and Dentistry courses of the University of La Serena, as well as teachers and directors of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Atacama. Likewise, it is important to highlight the assistance from the clinical simulation team of the ULS Nursing career, which has been developing its work for some years with a view to becoming a SoTL Community.

This first meeting allowed us to share experiences related to this topic and the work carried out by both universities. In this context, Lídice Zuleta, professor of the ULS Nursing program, explained to the participants her experience of working in a community for the formation of the clinical simulation project.

On the other hand, and to present the perspective of another university in the northern macro zone, María Paola Vieytes, Academic Secretary of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Atacama, shared with the audience her experience as in charge of the work around clinical simulation in the institution, highlighting some benefits and difficulties of working on this topic.

As for the Teaching Improvement Unit, its role in the creation of the SoTl Communities will be to accompany the work of said communities based on the needs expressed by those who make them up, seeking to provide the necessary support for their proper functioning.
