FIULS talks

In the month of August, the activities will continue and the First Cycle of Discussions will begin, in which academics from the University, graduates and collaborating companies will participate. It will be an instance of participation for the entire University community and the general public.

The “First Cycle of Graduate Network Talks” of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of La Serena (FIULS) was successfully carried out, with a total of 27 talks, and with the presence of more than 700 participants among students. , academics and the general public. The talks were given by graduates in order to provide feedback on new trends in the different areas of interest of FIULS careers.

The talks covered various topics, which were aimed mainly at students of the Civil Mining Engineering and Mining Engineering, Environmental Civil Engineering, Industrial Civil Engineering, Architecture and Construction Engineering careers at FIULS.

The Director of the Applied R&D and Industry Linkage Axis of the FIULS 2030 Project and who leads this initiative, Paulina González, pointed out that “we are very happy with the participation of both the graduates who will give talks, as well as the students, the academics and the community in general. This first cycle has strengthened the ties that the Faculty has with its graduates, and has allowed us to provide feedback on the latest trends in the different disciplines of engineering and architecture.”

Rodrigo Navarrete, Codelco Hydraulic Fracturing engineer and graduate in Civil Mining Engineering from FIULS, sent a message to the students indicating that “in times of pandemic the main thing is that they take care of themselves and not leave home, these are very difficult times in all sense. On the other hand, motivate them to finish their careers in the best way since there are many mining projects that are coming in the future and when this pandemic ends they will have to be developed no matter what. A lot of qualified labor will be needed and for my part my mentality is always to create a school where I am working.”

In relation to carrying out future activities, Paulina González highlighted that “during the month of July we will be organizing a cycle of conversations, which will focus on strengthening the link between the University and the industry. There will be the participation of prominent academics, who will guide the resolution of needs of different collaborating companies of the Faculty and the participation of graduates will also be included. The conversations will take place during the month of August, at this time we already have 5 proposed topics to develop”, she concluded.

Regarding the Second Cycle of Talks, these will take place in the month of September and next month the dates and topics will be announced.
