The PACE ULS Program managed the VAW Prevention Program training course for professionals from the departments, units and programs of the university.

Professionals from the National Service for Women and Gender Equality (SERNAMEG), gave a training on Gender Violence and Violence against Women (VAW), organized by the Support and Effective Access to Higher Education PACE ULS team, to the different professionals of the house of higher education from the different departments, units, areas and programs that work directly with the students.

sernameg2Gender violence and violence against women has become a point of debate in society. That is why, in order to increasingly improve the attention towards ULS students by the professionals who work directly with them, the need arises to carry out SERNAMEG training. In the words of Viviana Romero, Executive Coordinator of the PACE ULS Accompaniment Program, “it is necessary for the professionals who directly serve the students of our school to improve every day and that is why this training carried out by SERNAMEG was perfect for to be able to know these problems at all levels and, in addition, to manage the regular channel by which we must follow if a case related to gender violence and violence against women arises.”

The main objectives of this instance were to enable tools for the detection, referral and/or care of victims of gender violence; and contribute to the understanding, updating and strengthening of content and tools on the subject. All this in order to advance the eradication of all forms of violence against women, in all spaces and contexts in which it is carried out.

sernameg3For Loreto Garrido, Coordinator of the Secondary Education Preparation Area (PEM), the event was very significant, “facing the harsh reality of VAW, which surpasses fiction, allows us to have clear knowledge, with real and updated national statistics referring to the situations that many of our fellow victims of various types of violence must face, and due to lack of information we are sometimes unable to help them. Now I feel more prepared to welcome and guide anyone who finds themselves in this position.”

This training process was intended for the PACE Team, social workers, officials of the Department of Health, Teacher Improvement Unit, DIDOC and PAAD. There were two days, the first was in charge of the Ps. Cecilia Valenzuela Matus, territorial manager of the VAW Prevention Program and National Service for Women and Gender Equality, who gave the talks “Gender and Violence” and “Masculinities”; and the second day was in charge of Ts. Mg. Juan Liempi Liempi, regional manager of the VAW Prevention Program National Service for Women and Gender Equality, who gave the talks “First Reception” and “Programmatic Offer of SERNAMEG Devices”.

It should be noted that those who have attended the training sessions will be given a certificate from SERNAMEG.
