The University is already working on a second edition of this intensive “intersemester” for students with critical subjects.

“It was quite important because it gave me the option of passing the course of differential calculus and at the same time reinforcing knowledge that had been left half-finished last semester, and I can say that this was a very exhaustive experience, but that it was 100% worth it.” With these words, Manuel Velázquez, a second-year student studying Mechanical Civil Engineering, described his experience participating in the Intensive Academic Season (TAI) held in January and which allowed 164 students to pass courses that they had lagged behind.

It was the first time that the ULS carried out an intensive “intersemester” for students with critical subjects, a pilot program promoted by Rector Luperfina Rojas to support students and improve their chances of obtaining a timely degree.

During the TAI, 18 subjects from the different faculties were taught: 11 from Engineering; 3 Science; 3 of Social, Business and Legal Sciences; and 1 from Humanities. Of the 180 participants, 91,1% approved their respective field.

“At the end of each year we establish the Academic Calendar for the following period. And this 2024, for the first time, this Intensive Academic Season is inserted into the annual planning. I must emphasize that there is a possibility that it will occur in the month of July, but this will depend on some factors that are fundamental. One of them is that we have effective compliance, according to the programming, of each of the teaching activities that are incorporated in the Academic Calendar. Failure to comply with said calendar as appropriate would alter this planning, because obviously there we would have to establish other recovery actions,” said the Academic Vice-Rector, Alejandra Torrejón.
