Master in Water Resources Management in Arid and Semi-Arid Zones

Objectives:

The University of La Serena, has designed the Master in Water Resources Management, in Arid and Semi-Arid Areas whose purpose is to contribute to Strengthen the competencies (knowledge, skills and attitudes) of the participants in scientific and technological foundations, analysis methodologies, tools of calculation and relevant knowledge for innovation in the Management of Water Resources in Arid and Semi-Arid Zones with an approach that integrates territories, sources, water uses, actors and infrastructure allowing to contribute to regional sustainability and competitiveness.

This program has the following objectives:

  • Forming advanced human capital in water resources management for the Coquimbo Region, considering the theoretical and practical aspects.
  • Develop competencies in the participants that allow, through scientific and technological knowledge, to apply, analyze and evaluate innovative actions in the management of water resources, fostering creativity and a culture of entrepreneurship in the public and private sectors.
  • Develop in participants the ability to integrate the components of the territory / basin, emphasizing the understanding, analysis and evaluation of interactions between sources, uses, actors and infrastructure to propose innovative interventions in the area of ​​water resources management in areas arid and semi-arid.
  • Develop in the participants the capacities that allow, through a multidisciplinary approach, to understand the factors that affect the management of water resources, analyze, synthesize and evaluate the interactions of these factors and make decisions aimed at the sustainable management of resources water as a basis for the competitiveness of the territories.
  • Encourage research, innovation and technology transfer in water resources management for arid and semi-arid areas with emphasis on regional issues.

Curriculum:

The curriculum is organized in 11 courses distributed in 4 semesters:

  • Semester I: Water Resources, R + D + I in Water Resources in Arid and Semi-Arid Zones, Monitoring and Modeling of Water Resources in Arid and Semi-Arid Zones, Title I Project Workshop.
  • Semester II: Water Resources Operation Systems Applied to Arid and Semi-Arid Zones, Sustainability of Water Resources, Workshop Project Title II.
  • Semester III: Water and Environmental Legislation, Water Resources Management in Arid and Semi-arid Areas, Workshop Project Title III.
  • Semester IV: Workshop Project Title IV.


Duration:
The duration of the program is 4 semesters, including the Degree Project. The program consists of a total of 1.632 chronological hours, distributed in 618 face-to-face chronological hours (824 pedagogical hours) and 1.014 chronological hours of autonomous work, equivalent in total to 60 Transferable Credits.

Start of classes: March 13 from 2020
Online application period: from the 28 of October to the 09 of December until the 00: 00hrs.
Delivery of results: December 26 from 2019
First period tuition: from 3 to 5 March 2020
Second period tuition: March 6 of the 2020
