ULS Symphony: new master class from home will be based on the study of the transverse flute

The initiative organized by OSULS invites interested parties to register as listening or active participants through the website www.sinfonicalaserena.cl. The University of La Serena Symphony Orchestra is making a new call for all those who want to participate in its cycles of master classes from home, free of charge, and through the Zoom platform. The study of a new instrument from the woodwind family will take place during the third week of July, while last Wednesday the 15th, the captivating trip fell on the mastery of two outstanding Serenense trumpeters, members of the symphonic ensemble : Sergio Fuentes Ibarra and Cristian Monreal Cortés. During this instance and for more than two hours, students in training and music teachers from different sectors of the territory connected to share this free learning space, expanding their knowledge of the instrument, clearing up doubts and putting into practice different warm-up exercises to good execution, such as breathing, vibration of the lip alone and then with the mouthpiece, strengthening the embouchure and corrections in the posture that each musician takes when playing the trumpet. Sebastián Núñez, who participated as a listener, stated that the educational space provided by the orchestra “allowed him to remember and reinforce what he had learned in previous years. The people who lead the session have been my teachers throughout my career. I am a Musical Education teacher, so this knowledge helps me stay fresh in the concepts and, in this way, be able to pass them on to potential students of this instrument. I currently perform as a mariachi and technique is essential to perform this music. It also helps me to renew and acquire new concepts, new tools and pedagogical resources to improve and remain current in the execution of this instrument,” he commented through the online platform. For her part, student Catalina Ramos appeared in the virtual session performing the first movement of Arcangelo Corelli's Sonata, an event that allowed her to show her knowledge and handling of the instrument: “I really liked playing and that they corrected me when I played.” my piece, that's why it will help me. I hope these instances are repeated because it was a good experience. Many thanks to the orchestra.” For his part, Ramón Álamos also referred to the holding of this master class, indicating that he thought it “simply great (…) I am a music teacher and I have been playing trumpet self-taught for 5 years. This year I am taking classes and seeing classical technique that has helped me a lot, as well as being a bronze luthier.” And he adds that these types of initiatives “serve to share because one learns, relearns and reinforces knowledge. There are things that sometimes one takes for granted, but for students they are not.” New educational date The aforementioned Cycle of Master Classes from home already has a new and upcoming date in which we will work on a new instrument from the woodwind family: the transverse flute. The class will be guided by the musician and cast member, Gerardo Bluhm Ceballos, who delved into this new teaching modality: “as musicians, this pandemic has given us a great lesson in updating ourselves and using existing social tools to take our work to anywhere in the country or the world. Art is vital for the culture of a society, therefore, for our work to fulfill its function, it is essential (especially in these times) to deliver our work to the community through different means,” emphasized the first flute. Regarding the content that he will teach next Wednesday, July 22 via Zoom, the interpreter confessed that “for me this modality is a new challenge, it opens a door to our work field and, in turn, provides an opportunity to every lover. of the instrument to have access to experiment, learn and enrich their knowledge", adding that, in principle, "I would love to help answer questions and doubts from participants, both active and listening, about how to generally approach our daily study of the instrument. In front of the active participants, I want to offer advice on how to prepare for an audition and tips that will help us solve technical passages that we have to face.” The third master class of the month of July will take place at 17:30 p.m. Those who wish to register, free of charge, as active participants (3) or listeners, only have to enter the website www.sinfonicalaserena.cl and complete the form located in the 'Online Classes' tab.
