Conference Series on Contemporary Psychology and Society begins

The instance is developed by the Extension Directorate in conjunction with the Department of Psychology of the ULS, in order to bring this discipline closer to the local community.

''Emotions and well-being: is it possible to manage emotions for our benefit?'' is the name of the first talk organized by the Directorate of Extension and the Department of Psychology of the University of La Serena within the framework of the Cycle of Academic Conferences 2014 ''Psychology and Contemporary Society'', which will be held throughout the year, starting on April 30 and ending November 26.

This first conference will be given by the director of the Department of Psychology at the ULS, Dr. Mauricio González Arias, and the objective is to present some elements of self-regulation and emotional management that emerge from the new theories of emotions and that can serve attendees to better understand their emotional life. The talk will take place on Wednesday, April 30, from 11:30 a.m., at the ULS Extension Center, located at Prat 446, La Serena.

The objective of this cycle of conferences is to achieve a rapprochement between the Department of Psychology and the community through talks given by academics from the University of La Serena, where their research topics will be presented in a way that can be understood by the audience. without it being necessary to have a prior mastery of psychology and at the same time that the topics covered are useful.

In general, among the topics addressed within the cycle are happiness, cognitive psychology, myths about human sexuality, guidelines for the world of work and quality of life.

This is the third version of a work that has meant a great academic contribution by the Department of Psychology in generating instances of participation oriented toward the local population, with the idea of ​​enhancing the role played by this unit of the Faculty of Humanities in the training of professionals in the area of ​​psychology. 

Regarding this third installment of the cycle, the director of the Extension Center, Dr. Catalina Cvitanic, stated that she felt very comfortable with this type of activities. ''We are very pleased to be able to generate this type of academic conferences, whether with the Department of Psychology or with other departments, because we see the need to inform the community about the academic work that is generated within the University, especially because Many times it is thought that university specialization could not reach people in a clear and easy way,'' he said.
