The audience will have the opportunity to talk about the great mystery of death and the rescue of the value of life.

At the Extension Center of the University of La Serena, the conference ''Zen and Death'', directed by Rodrigo Fernández Portaluppi, Shudosan Zen meditation monk, will be held this Monday, May 26, at 17:00 p.m. The conference is part of the ''Opening Horizons'' Cycle of the XXIV School for the Elderly and will address death as the main concern of human beings. This is how his narrator advanced, for whom "talking about death is also talking about life. Why do we love if we are going to die later?" It is a key and basic question: why do I get up in the morning? why do I work? Why do I love the people I love if later when I die I will leave them suffering and in pain? (…). So wondering about death is wondering about life. Why are we living?'' Fernández stated.

Zen is the meditation school of Buddhism and from this perspective there is always a why or why in life. Regarding this point, for the rapporteur, ''the mind is not capable of answering, the mind asks good questions, but the answers are always precarious, in Zen what we always seek is to keep the question open, not an intellectual answer. We seek the answer to be experiential, arising from one's own experience. This allows meditation, opening to the experience of being alive. When you are connected to life completely, you can understand death.''

Finally, Fernández Portaluppi issued an invitation for this free entry activity, organized jointly by the ULS Extension Directorate and the Los Andes Compensation Fund. ''I want to invite you to participate in this conference, death is the most important issue that we have to resolve in our lives paradoxically, so it seems to me that it is an event that could be interesting for many and everyone is invited. Not with easy answers, but basically so that they know an experience of how to understand or participate in life and death,' he commented.

poetry contest 1

This literary contest seeks to distinguish emerging and established writers through the publication of their works, in addition to recognizing their work through a monetary incentive.

The academic of the Department of Arts and Letters of the University of La Serena, Dr. Walter Hoefler, and the young poet from Serena and student of the Dentistry program at the ULS, Hugo Godoy (Paulo San Páris), were winners of the First Contest of Regional Poetry ''Stella Díaz Varín Editorial Fund'' of the Municipality of La Serena, in the Unpublished Poetry and Emerging Young People categories, respectively.

Both the teacher and the student from the state campus were awarded during a ceremony held in the offices of the Municipal Library of La Serena, as was Juan Mancilla, a former student of the institution, who received a special mention.

ULS professor Walter Hoefler won first place for his work ''Guiños y tolls'', a set of poems referring to people (winks) and places (tolls). ''The poem is thus a record, payment for the stay, being the places (Budapest after the fall of the wall, Cornwall, Venice) and in the case of the people it is pseudo elegies, poetry contest 2not to call them posthumous dialogues with Enrique Lihn, Raúl Ruiz, Mañil Huenu, the first lonko or weichafe to resist the onslaught of the Chilean state in the XNUMXth century.''

While Paulo San Páris reached first place in the Emerging Young People category for ''ISOHILE'', which he considers his ''most worked and most complex book,'' it took me almost three years to write it in its entirety, since he They adhere to various ways of entering or being read, such as a sociological, anatomical, esoteric, historical, botanical, poetic treatise, among others. The idea of this was to open a range of reading possibilities for the reader and in this way encourage them to complete coverage of the same book,'' said Hugo Godoy, who in 2009 won the award in the Poetry category from the ''Manuel Editorial Fund Concha'' with her first book ''Sogol Gaza''.

The young regional poet explained that the objective of ''ISOHILE'' is to ''deliver an allegory about the Chilean Military Dictatorship, a topic that I knew in advance is not new, but I am interested that the form was new. I linked this with paradoxical allusions to Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, which allowed me to give it the effect and form of a world parallel to that of historical chronology.''

It should be noted that the ''Stella Díaz Varín'' Fund - created in honor of the outstanding avant-garde poet from Serena - seeks to distinguish emerging and established writers through the publication of their works, in addition to recognizing their work through a monetary incentive. .

academic colloquium 1

Perspectives from philosophy, neuroscience and psychology, spirituality and everyday life, and the hard sciences were discussed by the professionals of the study house and the audience present.

Professors from educational establishments, professionals from other disciplines, older adults, students and academics from the University of La Serena, met at the Extension Center of the house of higher education to give life to the Colloquium on Critical Approaches to the Truth.

The speakers of this activity, organized by the Department of Psychology and the Extension Directorate of the ULS, were the academics Dr. Mauricio González and Mg. Mauricio Cerda (Dept. of Psychology), Dr. Marco Corgini (Dept. of Mathematics) and Dr. Francisco Roco (Dept. of Education), and the manager of the U. de La Serena Publishing House, Alejandro Abufom.

For just over three hours, representatives of the institution addressed the concept of truth from their different areas of work and interest: philosophy, spirituality and everyday life, hard sciences, neuroscience and psychology, interacting with the public, answering your questions and generating discussion on the different aspects mentioned.

History and social changes, assumptions about different events, philosophical positions, religion, politics, the human brain and many other areas were part of the presentations listened to with great attention by the dozens of attendees. In this way, as indicated by the director of the Department. of Psychology, Dr. Mauricio González, "the expectation was met because precisely the objective was to be able to get closer to the community and, on the other hand, also have a dialogue between colleagues or initiate a dialogue. The idea was always to have many perspectives.''

In this regard, Dr. Marco Corgini added that ''I am impressed. A lot of people came, they were very interested, they asked very interesting and important questions. It seems to me academic colloquium 2that this is a very good link between the institution and the environment and it is something that should not end. The important thing is that there were several views, we are all different and, as I said in the presentation, the differences are not relevant here. We have realized in this discussion that the fundamental issues do not have to do with that, but with tolerance, the debate of ideas, etc. That's the main''.

For his part, Dr. Francisco Roco expressed that “I am very pleased that the University informs, tells, and shares with the community the work that is carried out within it. It is an ethical and moral issue for a university to project itself into the community.” Likewise, he commented that he would love to bring forward a new version of the event, ''looking at the best within ourselves from a different perspective. I would like to approach it from the perspective of a very 'lying' knowledge that speaks of truth, art, which is a beautiful, true, playful lie that enchants. There is a very deep connection with the truth there. I think the community would like that topic too.''

For Alejandro Abufom, the evaluation of the colloquium is also positive, since ''there was no implicit complicity, but rather different perspectives: that of a philosopher, with comments on Heidegger, Mario Bunge, etc., spiritual traditions, history of science, neurosciences and a little from politics. The objective was met and the people who came had a very good reception, so we are super happy, we hope it will be replicated with another topic. We must generate dialogue, that is the objective of these activities, in addition to the extension of the university, to generate dialogue between citizens and academics or the people who work at the university.''

Meanwhile, Mg. Mauricio Cerda highlighted ''not only the presentations of the colleagues, but also at the end having seen the reception of the people. From what several people said, it seems that they found it very enjoyable, very attractive, it left them with reflections, they talked about having learned some things, no one wanted to leave, so I really think it met its objective.''

Just like the other exhibitors, the academic from the Department of Psychology hopes to repeat the experience. ''Forums, seminars could be organized in which there can be debate, in which there are University professors from different fields, defining a common topic that can be approached from different perspectives, I think that is where the main enrichment lies. Now things came out that touched on political, social, cultural, perhaps even economic issues, so topics could be sought that are also attractive to the community,'' he said.

At the close of the colloquium, numerous people from the public asked to speak to congratulate the University of La Serena and the academics who presented at the activity for the opportunity they were given to learn about different topics, clarify doubts, generate debate and offer such a panorama. varied on the concept of truth, with high-level academic presentations.

It is important to mention that the summaries of the exhibitions will be published in No. 7 of El Club Cuántico Magazine (http://elclubcuantico.blogspot.com), while video presentations will be available on the channel http://www.youtube.com/elclubcuantico.

amaryllis novel

The work published by Editorial Universidad de La Serena will be reviewed by the writer and journalist Enrique Planas and by the writer and communications consultant Richard Primo.

At the Cultural Center of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, the novel ''Amarilis and the Impossible Country'', written by the researcher at the University of La Serena, Dr. Ernesto Gianoli Molla, will be launched this Monday, May 12.

Starting at 19:30 p.m., this work, which was published in 2013 by Editorial U. de La Serena, will be presented by the person in charge of the publishing house, Alejandro Abufom, and commented by the writer and cultural journalist from Diario El Comercio , Enrique Planas, and by the writer and communications consultant, Richard Primo.

Regarding this opportunity to launch the novel in his country, Dr. Gianoli expressed that ''it is a very significant event, both on a personal level, because Lima is the city in which I was born and raised, and where the plot develops. of the novel, as well as on the institutional level, since a book from the ULS publishing house is presented abroad.''

Let us remember that the novel tells the story of ''Felipe'', a young Peruvian who studies literature at the U. Complutense and who travels to his country to review a documentary archive for the work of his doctoral thesis. This search shows you hidden details of the relationship between Amarilis, an anonymous poet from the Peruvian colonial era, and Lope de Vega, to whom she wrote the famous poem ''Epístola a Belardo''.

''Looking for contacts to reach the archive, Felipe meets Claudia, who introduces him to a group of students participating in a literary gathering. It is the last months of the year 2000 and Fujimori's authoritarian and corrupt regime seems to refuse to disappear. Gradually, Felipe becomes romantically involved with Claudia and discovers that the social gathering group is preparing a redemptive assassination. Letting himself be carried away by Claudia, despite her skepticism and postponing her literary research, Felipe finds himself involved in the operation. The backdrop for the constant struggle between reckless idealism and the most irrefutable hopelessness is the city of Lima and its history, where nothing seems to happen for the first time,'' the scientist mentioned during the launch of his work as part of the XXXII anniversary. from the University of La Serena.

In this way – said Dr. Ernesto Gianoli – the places, the context and everything that surrounds the plot show the "concern of the individual for the fate of his society, a sorrowful, involved look at that reality that surrounds''.
