Kindergarten and Nursery Room ''Los Papayitos'' begins academic year

This educational project is born from the need of the students to have an establishment that provides care and education to their sons and daughters, and at the same time allows them to fulfill their academic obligations.

The University of La Serena recently began the academic year of the Kindergarten and Nursery Room ''Los Papayitos'' with an activity attended by university authorities, headed by the Rector, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés, the general director of Student Affairs, Mg. Miguel Zuleta, the coordinator of the Student Welfare Department, Patricia Astroza, officials, students and representatives of the establishment.

During the event, framed in the commemoration of the thirty-third anniversary of the state campus, the director of Student Affairs pointed out that the university, through its Student Welfare Department, began to grant this benefit to students who had children in the preschool age so that they received comprehensive attention while their parents were carrying out their academic activities. Starting in 2006, he commented, the Federation of Students (FEULS), together with the University, managed to sign an agreement with the JUNJI, ''obtaining the benefits that the State gives free of charge to its boys and girls from vulnerable sectors so that they have the possibility of having initial education and equal opportunities. This is comprehensive care that includes quality initial education, food and social care."

Miguel Zuleta expressed that the University of La Serena and its highest authority recognize the importance of helping its students comprehensively during their stay in this study house, and in this case it supports them in the education of their children by renting this facility and adapting it to the requirements demanded by JUNJI; even more so considering that initial education must be of quality.

For her part, the director of the Kindergarten, Valeria Milla, thanked the Rector for his constant support and support to keep this educational project in force, which arises from the need of the students to have an establishment that provides care and education to their sons and daughters. , and at the same time allows them to fulfill their academic obligations. 

He also highlighted the support of the DGAE, the JUNJI and the technical team that works every day looking towards a single objective, “to provide a relevant and inclusive education to our children.” Likewise, the educator highlighted the commitment of the students' fathers and mothers, "who are always present in this educational process," she mentioned. 

In addition, the director expressed that both educators, social workers, technicians, minor service assistants and food handlers, “we build ties with our boys and girls and their families every day, assuming the commitment that means meeting their expectations of providing care.” , affection and quality and equitable education.” 

In this sense, the student of Pedagogy in Musical Education, Leslie Carvajal and mother of Antu, who entered the Kindergarten this year, valued this benefit that the ULS grants "since it facilitates our education", also highlighting the teaching that is delivery in the establishment and the work of the educators, who have greatly facilitated your child's adaptation process in the garden. 

Those attending this activity were able to enjoy the dramatizations ''The Six Little Ducks'' and ''Saludando al Train'' for the junior high and high school preschools, led by educator Ana Montesinos.
