With songs, dances, poems and skills, the closing day of the “Second National University Tunas Contest” was held in the Aula Magna, organized by the University of La Serena (ULS).
The winning institution of the contest was the University of Chile, which was awarded first place among the participants, highlighting its tradition in this discipline and its 19-year history.
The meeting, which brought together six groups, had several stages, highlighting the parade and the round that took place in the Plaza de Armas of La Serena, a place where more than one hundred people from different Houses of Studies in the country gathered, among them: University of Valparaíso, Federico Santa María Technical University, Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso, University of Chile, University of Antofagasta and the host University of La Serena.
During the closing ceremony, the groups had the opportunity to perform on the Aula Magna stage, demonstrating all their quality in singing, tambourine, soloists, and this year, in an unprecedented way, an instrumental theme, where the musicians interpreted their own songs and of highly recognized national singers such as Víctor Jara and Violeta Parra.
The award for the best tambourine, soloist and flag; it also stayed at the University of Chile, while second place went to the University of Antofagasta, which also won the prizes for the best parade and round. The oldest tuno with 83 years of age appeared at this university.
Meanwhile, third place was obtained by the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso, which also achieved the best instrumental presentation.
For the organizers of the event, this meeting demonstrates that students and those who belong to the Tuna District (ULS) can manage to organize important events through self-management, since the activity was framed in the support given by the ULS, through a project of Institutional Development, in the line of student entrepreneurship, which also considered the prior carrying out of musical presentations in different highly vulnerable sectors of the Coquimbo Region, thus bringing culture closer to the community in general.
Jurors at the contest were the councilor of the Illustrious Municipality of La Serena, Pablo Yáñez, the journalist from Mi Radio, Andrés Moraga, the representative of the Tuna Santiaguina Chamuca, Iván Vega Ramírez, a member of the Tuna Cuarentuna of La Serena, Hernán Pérez, and the founder of the Tuna District of the University of La Serena, Rony Pérez, who served as president of the jury.
For the founder of la Tuna, this type of space further consolidates the path that the students and alumni that make up the group have traveled "I am tremendously proud of what we have achieved in these almost 20 years as Tuna and it is a source of satisfaction to see that everything turned out very well and that the public and the community in general enjoyed it. We want this circuit to continue growing and maintain it over time,” said Pérez.
For the Tuna Distrito of the ULS, its approach to the community is fundamental and through this meeting it sought to strengthen the aspects of social commitment of the institution, generating a cooperative link with other houses of study committed to culture and entertainment.
