The University of La Serena Student Welfare team has been carrying out a series of talks in different schools in La Serena, Coquimbo, Ovalle and Los Vilos, as part of its social responsibility policy.

In the presentations, the team of the unit dependent on the DGAE has informed families and students about the application for State and internal benefits offered by the institution.

This is the case of the informative talk that took place at the Colegio Seminario Conciliar de La Serena, where around 70 people were present.

"To date we have held 10 informative talks, reaching more than 400 parents and students, and we have several more scheduled for the rest of the month," said the social worker and Student Wellness Coordinator, Patricia Astroza.

One of these presentations will take place in Ovalle next Wednesday, October 17, and will be aimed at counselors and social workers from high schools and colleges in the Province of Limarí. The activity will take place at the Limarí Campus of the University.

From 01 to 19 is the period to carry out the complete application process for internal scholarships.

The General Directorate of Student Affairs (DGAE) informs ULS students that the application process for internal scholarships from the Department of Student Welfare corresponding to the Second Semester 2018 has begun.

All students who wish to apply for benefits for the Second Semester must complete the form available on the Phoenix student platform, gather the supporting socioeconomic documentation, reserve an appointment time in the online agenda and submit the form plus the supporting documents to the social worker. of each campus within the designated period.

Students can apply for scholarships to support money for lunch, mobilization, photocopies and materials, residence, money (free disposal) and Kindergarten. In the same way, you can apply for the breakfast, lunch and eleven-food scholarships.

The terms are the following:

  • October 1 to 12: online application
  • October 1 to 19: delivery of documentation

The student and university community enjoyed the healthy preparations and typical games of the already traditional party, in which the five departments of the General Directorate of Student Affairs were present.

Hundreds of attendees including students, officials and academics gathered this Wednesday, September 12, in the third version of the Healthy Fonda "ULSana La Fonda pa'Sana", organized by the Department of Student Health of the General Directorate of Student Affairs.

The activities began with the ribbon cutting by the General Director of Student Affairs, Mg. Miguel Zuleta Cereceda, and the Coordinator of the Student Health Department, Dr. Sandra Sacre Mahnert. There was also an award ceremony for Suzanne Romo Bruna, student of Pedagogy in Spanish and Philosophy, winner of the contest to name the Fonda; and the traditional pie de cueca of the Folkloric Ensemble of the University of La Serena, COFULS, an artistic group from the Department of Extracurricular Activities.

In addition to information and professional guidance, healthy snacks and typical games were offered.

The team of nutritionists from the Casino and University Cafeterias shared with the students traditional preparations such as empanadas and healthy skewers; while the Student Welfare Department livened up the party with fun contests and prizes.

Meanwhile, the Department of Physical Education and Sports invited the participants to gather around the excitement of our typical competitions: the three-footed race and the bagging, and the spinning top, emboque and rope throwing games. The winners of the activities received prizes courtesy of Junaeb-Sodexo.

The activity ended with the Payas and Cueca Contest organized by the Department of Extracurricular Activities, where the students excelled sharing their art, joy and Chilean mischief with the attendees.

The artistic group of the Department of Extracurricular Activities won the prize in the III National Contest of University and District Tunas, which took place in Valparaíso.

Parades, competitions and closing gala were the main activities of the III National Contest of University and District Tunas, organized by the University of Valparaíso, in which the District Tuna of the University of La Serena obtained the main prize for Best Tuna.

tuna district2In addition to sharing the stage with the host institution and the representatives of the universities of Chile, Católica de Valparaíso, Técnica Federico Santa María and Antofagasta, the ULS District Tuna won the prizes for Best Parade, Best Soloist and Best Layer Dance. .

The student of Pedagogy in Musical Education of the house of studies and head of the award-winning group, Mario Díaz Peralta, valued the participation in the event in the city of Buenos Aires, highlighting the "experience of sharing with our colleagues from other tunas, old and new , creating bonds of companionship and family. Recreational, artistic and social action activities marked the commemoration of the 17 years.

Costumes, music and colors were the protagonists in the celebration of the seventeenth anniversary of the Kindergarten and Nursery "Los Papayitos", which works at the service of the students of the University of La Serena.

papayitos2The kindergarten currently has an enrollment of 43 boys and girls, who are sons and daughters of students in this house of study. There are 11 employees working there, including nursery school educators, nursery educator assistants, and service assistants.

Ana María Correa, director of the garden, indicated that “we carry out the anniversary and Children's Day activities. We manage and develop all these activities together with the Parent Center, who are students of the University”.

The entire educational community participated in these activities, contemplating sports activities at the Cendyr Sports Complex, where boys and girls shared with their parents, guardians and garden officials. There was also a parade that toured the city to promote good treatment of children and interact with the community that surrounds them, and in which they also accompanied the Circo Minero, which brightened up the activity with its artists. The activities culminated in the celebration of Children's Day, with a colorful party that everyone shared with joy.

In my case, I am hospitalized, which means that I have a restricted time, but my teachers and our career are in contact with the kindergarten and they have always made it easier for me to come to meetings and be able to be present when necessary. The experience that I have had in this time has been excellent, the garden has exceeded my expectations that I had at the beginning. I hope that my son can continue the years that his mother is in his career, we also hope that the students learn about the garden so that they can bring their children so that our community continues to grow ”.
