Mayor of Illapel gives background information to Rector ULS on the potential of the commune for state CFT

Rector Avilés indicated that in the meeting held with the Illapelino councilor, a series of technical background information has been received that allows us to know the potential of the commune, which, in his opinion, should be delivered to the Public-Private Intersectoral Table. body in charge of decision-making.

In the Raúl Bitrán Room of the Central House of the University of La Serena, the meeting took place between the Rector of the ULS, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés, and the mayor of Illapel, Denis Cortés, who, accompanied by his technical team, presented a series of potentialities that - according to what was proposed by the mayor - would favor the installation of the future State Technical Training Center (CFT) in the capital of the Province of Choapa.

Among the strengths raised by the mayor in this meeting, in which the general secretary, Mg., was also present. Sergio Zepeda, and the director of Institutional and Planning Studies, Mg. César Espíndola, the proximity of the commune to cities such as Los Vilos, Salamanca, Canela and Combarbalá, the connectivity, the large number of young high school graduates from the provincial capital, the infrastructure available for the CFT, the more than 200 students that year after year they do not continue their studies, the high number of workers who would have the possibility of further training, among other arguments.

In this regard, Rector Nibaldo Avilés indicated that in this meeting a series of technical background information has been received that allows us to know the potential of the Illapel commune, which, in his opinion, should be delivered to the Public-Private Intersectoral Table. “As members of this body, which must make the decisions, what we can do is consider these technical elements and make them part of the discussion. Our position as a University is to resolve everything from an academic point of view and take objective and technical elements,” said the highest university authority, adding that the Intersectoral Table, made up of fifteen representatives of the public and private sectors of the Coquimbo Region, is expected to , can quickly define the most appropriate location for the Technical Training Center, an urgent issue for this institution.

For his part, Mayor Denis Cortés stated that this meeting made it possible to deliver to the Rector the elements and potential that the commune of Illapel and the Province of Choapa have to host the future state CFT, “so that it has more background and good planning, and for this project to have a very good result in the present, medium and long term, because these projects have to be looked at from that vision and we believe that we have an important option. “We are going to continue working and trying to reach all levels.” 

It is worth mentioning that the Illapelino councilor has raised these potentials in various meetings previously held with the Undersecretary of Education, Valentina Quiroga, the Executive Secretary of Technical-Professional Training, Marcela Arellano, the Seremi of Education, Pedro Esparza, and the regional mayor. , Hanne Utreras.
