Academics, professionals and students from different units of the University of La Serena will receive the students to show them part of the work of the university.

With the purpose of expanding and diversifying the sociocultural spaces and resources of boys, girls and their families, the Regional Center for Studies and Development of Education of the University of La Serena (CREDEULS), through the project “In the Companies "You learn in the Family", directed by academic Dr. María Teresa Juliá, together with academic researchers and students, will carry out the second version of "The University open to boys and girls" this Wednesday, October 15.

The children who will participate are those whose parents have been part of the different educational instances of the project, carried out in the Arturo Prat, Alonso de Ercilla, Villa San Bartolomé, Darío Salas and Carlos Condell de la Haza schools. Around 250 schoolchildren are expected to attend different campuses of the school and for this there is the collaboration of the Municipal Education Corporation of the First Municipality of La Serena and the respective management teams of the aforementioned schools.

As Dr. Juliá mentions, “The University open to boys and girls” implies an organization in which departments of the University located in the respective university campuses where children will be received and cared for, raising their questions and needs for knowledge and exploration. In addition, there will be the participation of student centers in Pedagogy in Basic General Education, Ped. in Early Childhood Education and Psychology, who will have a role as mediators and reporters of the experience.

The project director details that the educational route consists of visiting and getting to know spaces such as Radio Universitaria FM, the ULS radio station; the gym; the Central Library; laboratories, parks, classrooms; the Mineralogical Museum; the Headquarters; casino and activities typical of different careers at the University of La Serena, as places where many are and have been trained as professionals. The activity ends in a meeting in the Virtual Classroom of the Isabel Bongard Campus, where the children will share the meaning of this educational experience at the University which, it is expected, “will have significance in the lives of the children and their families, achieving “install in your imagination the common place of encounter with the other.”
