Before more than 80 authorities and academic directors of the University of La Serena, the Vice President of the National Accreditation Commission (CNA), Dr. Erika Castillo Barrientos, spoke about the importance of deepening the coherence and relevance of institutional processes, under the new accreditation criteria and standards.

Doctor Castillo was responsible for opening the cycle of talks called “Road to a new accreditation, a new step in quality”, organized by the ULS Rectorate, through the Directorate of Strategic Development and Quality; continuing with the preparation for the next institutional accreditation process, whose central focus will be comprehensive quality management.

On the occasion, Rector Dr. Luperfina Rojas indicated that “we know that the achievements we have achieved institutionally are very significant, but we have to continue working with determination and commitment because we need to take new steps in comprehensive quality assurance, where managers Academics are key in the implementation of strategies that allow us to continue advancing to achieve excellence.”

Dr. Luperfina Rojas added that “in this first instance, we are pleased and proud to be able to count on the outstanding participation of Dr. Erika Castillo, we are sure that her experience will help us consolidate our knowledge in the matter. Without a doubt, this series of talks represents a valuable opportunity to reflect on our current work and the definition of the path we must undertake to continue working for an accreditation of excellence, reaffirming our commitment to educational quality and the well-being of all those who are part of it. of our university that, for four decades, has contributed to regional and national development.”

Dr. Erika Castillo, Vice President of the CNA, in her presentation highlighted the areas of action associated with criterion number four on the virtuous circuit of research and its application to teaching and also the criteria on coexistence, gender and inclusion, among others. areas.

In this way, at the meeting held in the Hexágono Room, on the Andrés Bello Campus, all the authorities present remained attentive to the presentation that the specialist gave for more than an hour and which culminated with a round of questions from the managers.

In her intervention, Dr. Castillo initially developed the importance of the quality elements that underlie the criteria and the accreditation process. “Firstly, coherence, as an aspect of particular relevance to the work of institutions and that can be expressed in different ways and with different complexities, especially in comprehensive processes. Second, relevance, that is, how we realize if our training responds to present needs and emerging needs, as well as to the convictions of epistemic communities, all of this in a circuit that we could call permanent dynamism,” she explained.

On the occasion, Dr. Castillo thanked the authority for the invitation, indicating that “being able to participate in this space for reflection is very important for us as the National Accreditation Commission (…). A conversation is always necessary between the management teams, academics and all those involved in the accreditation processes, especially thinking about improving management regarding offering relevant training that adjusts to the challenges of the institutions, however, the most It is important to try to understand that these new standards have a progression from a general approach to integrated mechanisms,” said the expert.

It is worth mentioning that Erika Castillo has a degree in Education with a mention in Spanish and a Spanish Professor at the University of Concepción; Master of Arts with a mention in Hispanic Literatures, University of Concepción and Doctor in Spanish Philology, Complutense University of Madrid.
