The only state university in the Coquimbo Region was one of the few universities in the country that advanced in this indicator.

In another example of the important positioning of its graduates, and the perception that the market has of the institution that trains them professionally, the University of La Serena stood out in the ranking of quality perception that the labor market associates with different universities in the country (La Tercera - Qué Pasa), in which the state team rose four places compared to 2022.

In this measurement - where the perception of quality and the level of knowledge that employers grant to universities are recorded - the U. de La Serena occupies 23rd place (with a 65.07% global index), being one of the few study houses of the country that advanced this study in 2023.

The Director of Strategic Development and Quality of the institution, Alejandra Reyes, valued this progress in the study, indicating that “the La Tercera ranking measures five dimensions, among which is the perception that different employers have about the quality of each university. This year, 2.900 respondents ranked us in 23rd place out of 48 universities, rising four positions compared to 2022, with ULS being one of the two universities that improved the most in this aspect. This means that the labor market has a positive and increasing assessment of the quality and prestige of our university.”

Reyes added that "this increase can respond to the processes of continuous improvement and self-regulation of careers where the needs of the labor market and the opinion of our graduates are constantly reviewed to keep our careers updated and responding to the requirements of the environment. which increases the appreciation we have of our professionals and the university".

This opinion is shared by the coordinator of the Graduate Monitoring Office of the University of La Serena, Rodrigo Davanzo, who pointed out that the notable advances registered in the ranking “are the result of a sustained collaboration over several years between various units of our university. During this period, continuous molding has been carried out to adjust the skills, abilities and competencies of graduates to market demands.”

Davanzo added that “this increase of four points in the ULS classification underlines the high recognition and positioning in the labor market of the professionals who graduated from our institution. Their technical skills, transversal skills and the distinctive ULS seal stand out in particular, factors that have driven the constant improvement of our educational institution.”

The professional also specified that “the annual monitoring of these advances, carried out by the Graduate Monitoring Office, has allowed us to observe and understand the professional evolution of our graduates, as well as continually strengthen ties with key employers in the region and at the national level through our Liaison Network. The publication of this ranking reflects the daily commitment we maintain with our graduates, graduates, students and employers, evidencing the tangible results of our joint work.”

Marta Zepeda is managing partner of Agencia M2 Limitada, an accounting and auditing company that, in its 11 years of experience, has incorporated several interns who are ULS students. “Finally they stay working with us. As founding partners, we are very happy that our career is improving the training of excellent professionals year after year,” she said.
