Research quality: U. de La Serena in the top ten in Chile

The institution develops research that focuses mainly on topics of regional interest, such as biology of arid zones, astronomy, mining, food, energy and sustainability.

The University of La Serena has a prominent position at the national level in the area of ​​research, ranking seventh among Chilean universities. In addition, it is the one with the highest percentage of its publications in high-category scientific journals.

The measurement considers the number of publications of its researchers, the impact they have on the international scientific community and the percentage of works that are published in the journals of the first quartile (Q1), corresponding to those of greatest relevance.

The rector of the University of La Serena, Luperfina Rojas, highlighted the relevance that being in the top ten for research in Chile has for the institution: “The Ranking of La Tercera Universities is a highly prestigious measurement and for our institution it is a source of pride. that the quality of the research carried out by our academics be recognized. We are a university that works every day for excellence and scientists develop high-level research, which is demonstrated in the type of magazines that publish their papers.”

The research carried out at the University focuses mainly on topics of regional interest, such as arid zone biology, astronomy, mining, physics, energy and sustainability.

For his part, the vice-rector for Research and Postgraduate Studies, Héctor Cuevas, explained that the ULS develops a quality policy in which scientists who carry out highly complex studies play a fundamental role. Likewise, he highlighted that most of the research has a high impact among scientists internationally.

“Although the ranking is national, it is important to analyze that the relevance of our publications is world-class, having a high impact on the international scientific community,” said Cuevas.
