ULS and FOSIS sign collaboration agreement for the development of activities that benefit vulnerable communities

The agreement signed by the ULS Rector, Dr. Luperfina Rojas, and the Regional Director of FOSIS, Alejandro González, seeks to promote actions that promote sustainable development and equal opportunities. 

In order to develop joint actions that benefit the regional community, especially the most vulnerable families in the Coquimbo Region, the University of La Serena and the Solidarity and Social Investment Fund, FOSIS, signed a collaboration agreement that will allow the carrying out various activities of an academic nature, research, development, innovation, connection with the environment and extension.

The alliance seeks the participation of actors from the University community (academics, officials and students) and FOSIS in the activities carried out between both institutions; the development of talks, seminars and/or workshops to promote or present topics of interest; coordinate internships for students and the development of theses, degree works, and other types of research, development, innovation or creation projects; and carrying out reciprocal internships and field visits.

The agreement was signed by the ULS Rector, Dr. Luperfina Rojas, and the Regional Director of FOSIS, Alejandro González, in a ceremony held at the Headquarters of the university institution and attended by the President of the Board of Directors, Ernesto Velasco, in addition to authorities and directors of the state campus.

“For the University of La Serena it is very important to be able to finalize this agreement with FOSIS, an entity with which, for several years, we have worked together in different instances. And it is also a joy to be able to give this possibility to our students and academics to develop social activities where they share their knowledge with the community,” said the Rector, Dr. Luperfina Rojas, who added that FOSIS is “a strategic ally to promote social projects. that generate a positive impact on people's lives. “The union of our forces represents a significant step towards building a more just and equitable society.”

The Regional Director of FOSIS, Alejandro González, valued the signing of this agreement and pointed out that the Solidarity and Social Investment Fund “seeks to contribute to overcoming poverty and social vulnerability through strategies that, on the one hand, strengthen social cohesion, and on the other hand, the skills and capacities of people, families and communities, with territorial relevance and with a gender focus. Therefore, our objectives are directly related to the mission of the University of La Serena, and these seek to contribute to satisfying the general needs and interests of the community through all public policies, plans and programs that promote social development. territorial and economic of the Coquimbo Region”.

Furthermore, he indicated that with this alliance it is expected not only to encourage this participation between academics and students, but also with different actors who can be part of this vision and view of territorial development. “This is an excellent opportunity for ULS students to present their innovation ideas to us and help us think about the region,” emphasized the Regional Director of FOSIS.

For his part, the Director of Liaison with the Environment and ULS Extension; Mg. Carlos Varas explained that this agreement is part of the signing of an agreement between the Consortium of Universities of the State of Chile, CUECH, and the National Directorate of FOSIS, as part of the Network of Links with the Environment of this consortium and whose objective is to strengthen joint work between state universities and public entities. In addition, he highlighted that the agreement signed between both institutions reinforces the link with the environment and the actions that had already been developed between the University and regional FOSIS, and to be able to carry them out in a more systematic and permanent way, especially in such topics. relevant as overcoming poverty.
