Academics and students present innovation prototypes at Make It ULS Virtual Fair

The initiative seeks to give a platform to the institution's own research and creation capabilities in order to contribute from the academy to the resolution of problems.

Make It ULS is the Virtual Fair of innovative projects and prototypes developed by the University of La Serena, where students and academics presented prototypes and research projects, which seek to respond to the needs of the country and the Coquimbo Region.

The initiative seeks to give a platform to the institution's own research and creation capabilities, to various productive and social sectors, in order to contribute from the academy to the resolution of problems.

The Director of Research and Development of the University of La Serena, Dr. Sergio Torres Flores, pointed out that the Make it ULS 2021 Fair and Forum becomes “a space to present various projects and prototypes generated by students and academics, allowing them to interact with various actors in the ecosystem external to the ULS, particularly in matters of innovation and creation.”

Dr. Torres explained that this year “we had good attendance at the various presentations, which shows the interest generated by the work of the ULS. On this occasion we also present the ULS capabilities website, which seeks to present in a systematized manner the capabilities that the institution has to provide answers to various specific problems of the territory, making visible in a very good way the work that is carried out in matters of research, creation and innovation at ULS. I deeply appreciate the participation of everyone who made this event possible.”

The event via streaming, through the YouTube Channel of the Vice-Rector for Research and Postgraduate Studies, brought together 6 academics and 6 students who presented their initiatives in pitch format.

The selected projects and prototypes met the targeting factor for responding to social, environmental, industrial problems, etc. present in the territory; which had to present a future utility for society in their implementation.

Dr. Carlos Rodríguez, academic and speaker at the initiative, presented “Economic Solar Cells”, a work on innovation for the solar industry. He stated that the event enhances the “visibility of the university's work in terms of solar energy, renewable energy and the advances we have which have international relevance. Secondly, I consider that it allows us to link with relevant actors in the region, stimulating collaboration and greater progress in these prototypes that are being developed at the University of La Serena."

In the first part of the Make It ULS Fair, ULS projects and prototypes were presented, where they exhibited:

- Carlos Rodríguez, “Economic Solar Cells”
