ULS students participate in the VI National Meeting of Peer Tutors 2020

Universidad Católica del Maule (UCM) hosted this activity that seeks to maintain and strengthen dialogue, reflection and learning with young people who carry out tutorial work on university campuses throughout the country.

Tutors belonging to the Access to Higher Education Program (PACE) and the Support Program for Student Permanence, Performance, Leveling and Comprehensive Development (APRENDE), dependent on the Office of Student Support and Monitoring (OAME) of the Academic Vice-Rector's Office , were the ones who represented the House of Higher Studies at the meeting that was attended by young people who fulfill this role throughout the country.

The event, due to the Covid-19 health crisis, which affects our territory, was carried out remotely, however, this was not an impediment for hundreds of young people to strengthen dialogue, reflection and learning around the function. peer tutorial within the framework of the growing challenge that higher education currently involves.

Iván Jaramillo, PACE ULS Peer Tutor of the Journalism degree, participated in this meeting, through the poster presentation explained in videos, regarding the themes chosen for this year, however, our tutor presented his work that was approved to participate In the suspended meeting of the year 2019, with the topic of student well-being and health, regarding his participation, he expressed: “participating in this meeting was a very rewarding experience and also a lot of learning. I was able to meet tutors from other universities, see other types of methodologies, other experiences and that definitely entails learning and growth as a person and as a tutor.”

For his part, Hedbenhard Contreras, ULS APRENDE Tutor of the Psychology major, presented his experiences through a video call presentation, titled: the importance of tutoring in periods of student mobilization. When asked about his intervention in this VI National Meeting of Tutors, he stated: “the most rewarding thing about being a tutor is being able to see the personal growth and achievements that my tutors are achieving throughout this process and stage. university. It was an honor to have been able to represent my career, the APRENDE ULS Program and the University of La Serena in this important instance regarding support in higher education.”
