PACE ULS holds a meeting on Good Practices in Supporting Students to Higher Education

The activity was organized by the Secondary Education Preparation area (PEM) of the access program belonging to the Office of Student Support and Monitoring (OAME) of the Academic Vice-Rector's Office.

The Access to Higher Education (PACE) program of the University of La Serena held the “Meeting of Good Practices”, focused on the Accompaniment of students to tertiary education, for the twelve Educational Communities assigned to the ministerial measure.

The objective of this event was to provide a meeting space between the actors of the educational communities of the PACE ULS Educational Establishments (EE), to share good practices in the implementation of the PACE program and the accompaniment of students towards their post-secondary career. In this regard, Jovanna González, PEM PACE ULS Coordinator, argued: “As a program we seek to generate these meetings with the objective of socializing and promoting the transfer of good practices in the implementation of the program between the management teams and PACE coordinators, and also generate new guidelines. of articulation, all for the benefit of our students.”

In this same context, Dr. Alejandra Torrejón, ULS Academic Vice-Rector, expressed: “Together with the joint work carried out by the PACE program and our institution, we have accompanied more than 4.000 young people since 2015 and our commitment is to continue working “jointly for the desired education of equity and quality.”

In addition, at the meeting, the work experiences of two coordinators of PACE ULS Educational Establishments were presented: Alejandro Osses, Counselor of the Alberto Gallardo Lorca High School in Punitaqui, with the topic: Follow-up and monitoring of the post-secondary career of students; and María Alicia Segovia, Counselor of the Estela Ávila de Ovalle High School, with the title: Operational management and collaborative work with the PACE-PEM team, who added: “I am grateful for the opportunity, since sometimes we do not realize how we work or we carry out our tasks, which for us as an establishment are normal, but which draw the attention of those who visit us in our educational community, like PACE ULS.”

For her part, Verónica Salinas, a teacher in the technical area of ​​the El Ingenio de Ovalle College of Administration and Commerce, attending the activity, stated: “Our students or the vast majority of them have self-esteem problems and thanks to the workshops that the program PACE carries out in our community, they have realized that they can achieve many things and in addition, the PACE academy allowed them to change their vision of higher education and today we can happily say that we have several of our former students at the university” .

At the end of the day, Mg. Viviana Romero concluded: “I thank everyone who participated today. We as a team believe that the PACE program has consolidated a great family and a great commitment to our Educational Establishments and, of course, all of this in favor of our students. Thank you very much for continuing with your work and commitment in this complex year.”
