APRENDE ULS holds a Training Day for Men and Women Tutors on inclusion and disability issues

The first qualification event of the second semester was attended by more than sixty attendees, organized by the School of Tutors of the Accompaniment Program dependent on the ULS Academic Vice-Rector's Office.

The activity organized by the School of Tutors of the Orogram of Support for Permanence, Performance, Leveling and Comprehensive Development of the Student (APRENDE), is part of the requirements to serve as a tutor in any of the accompaniment instances of our university.

The qualification day for the second academic semester 2020 aimed to make resources and practical activities available related to the development of skills on inclusion and disability issues in educational and social contexts. This is why professionals from the ULS Comprehensive Support Plan participated and collaborated in this event. In this regard, Alejandra Galleguillos, in charge of said program, expressed: “The day allowed us to give an insight into the types of disabilities that some of our students have, in addition to the correct use of language. In short, allow students to know how to refer to and treat people with disabilities, taking into account that any questions should be asked of the person with disabilities. With my colleague Rosana Toro we are very grateful for the intervention”.

For her part, Mg. Yanett Leiva, Coordinator of the ULS Student Support and Monitoring Office (OAME), stated: “I consider that it is an activity that not only represents a new challenge for the development of tutoring during this second semester, but also a space to learn about the experiences from the students about the previous versions, in such a way that these experiences serve as feedback to strengthen the work of student accompaniment. In this same framework, the OAME is presented as the institutional figure that will coordinate all actions linked to inclusive access, effective leveling, comprehensive support and those aimed at contributing to timely qualifications."

In this same context, Iván Jaramillo, PACE ULS Tutor of the Journalism degree, stated that the day "taught us to break prejudices about people with disabilities and how we should relate to them, since many times we make the mistake of not saying the right words or taking appropriate actions, enriches our work as tutors, since it serves as a tool for us to work with our tutors, with or without disabilities.”

Additionally, at the event, Cinthya Arcos, tutor of the APRENDE program and Ignacio Debia, tutor of the Comprehensive Support Plan and APRENDE, presented their testimonies and links to tutorial experiences in inclusion and disability.

It should be noted that this Habilitation Day of the School of Tutors was transmitted via streaming and you can find the video on the channel of the ULS Academic Vice-Rector's Office, in the following link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCevElaj71Ygn_WR4YG-F7oQ
