Renowned works by Haydn and Beethoven will be part of the last OSULS chamber concert

The invitation is to connect with the compositions of these geniuses of the classical period, through the cast's Facebook LIVE.

Everything prepared and ready. Responding to its 2020 artistic-musical program, the professional ensemble from the Estrella Region is already getting ready to soon transmit a new and inspiring musical journey, through its social networks. This is the IV Chamber Music Concert from home, called 'Classical Winds', which will revive the most beautiful works of two acclaimed masters of European and world music.

Haydn and Beethoven will be the driving force of this latest presentation in an intimate format. In the first instance, the program contemplates Franz Joseph Haydn with the piece 'Divertimento in B Flat Major' and his movements 'Allegro con spirito', 'Andante quasi Allegretto Coral de San Antonio', 'Menuetto' and 'Rondó-Allegretto' for wind quintet with Leonardo Cuevas (oboe), Milén Godoy (traverse flute), Erick Delgado (clarinet), Francisco Ramos (bassoon) and Gersón Pierotti (French horn); all OSULS members.

Subsequently, the evening will continue its journey with the genius born in Bonn, Germany, Ludwig van Beethoven and his work 'Quintet in E Flat Major, Op. 71', where they will present the 'Adagio-Allegro', 'Adagio', 'Menuetto - quasi Allegretto' and 'Rondó – Allegro', under the mastery of José Luis Urquieta (oboe), Gerardo Bluhm (traverse flute), Andrés Pallero (clarinet), Alevi Peña (bassoon) and again, Gerson Pierotti (French horn).

According to the first OSULS bassoon, Alevi Peña, this chamber program will be made up of pieces from the eminently classical repertoire, which is very beautiful and very illustrative about what the classical period of music was, which spans approximately from the middle of the century XVIII to the beginning of the IX. “We have a very famous and very beautiful work by the Austrian composer, Franz Joseph Haydn: his 'Divertimento in B Flat Major', which is a variation of the San Antonio Chorale, which is a traditional European melody, religious, and based on which Haydn built variations that are the movements of this diversion,” the musician said by telephone.

Likewise, Peña added that it is very interesting to know that the Austrian maestro was a close friend of Mozart and, in addition, a teacher of another eminence of classical music, such as Ludwig van Beethoven, who will also be performed in this concert: “Beethoven was Haydn's composition disciple. He composed much chamber music for small groups, both string and wind, mixed and with pianos during his formative period. This wind work by Beethoven is a very beautiful example of this composer's transition period between his, let's say, classical, formative stage, when he wrote music in the style of Haydn and Mozart, the style of his teachers, until heading to the style that all of us know today which is the pre-romantic Beethoven. So it is a transition period; Therefore, in this work, Beethoven is framed in what we can call a classical piece because it is not exactly a romantic piece yet. So, we have two examples of wind music from that period,” the Serenense performer explained.

Just as has been the trend of the OSULS activities and concerts in 2020, this presentation will be held online due to the health contingency that still exists in the country. Regarding this new modality that the musicians have had to assume, the bassoonist commented that “it has been a challenge to make this program because it has meant, above all, acquiring new skills such as recording, editing and dealing with digital issues because not all colleagues They have the same familiarity with these tools, but they have handled it very well with a very good and expeditious result.”

He added that “obviously, it will never replace live work, in person, because this does not replace live concerts and even less so, musical work with musicians in rehearsal. There is no call or Zoom that replaces getting together to play, listen to each other and make music together, but we know and understand that this is an emergency situation that is complicated, that is why it is very important and meaningful for us to be able to bring music in this difficult period to "All people who want a moment of distraction, enlargement of their spirit, and for us too, without a doubt, it is a call that when all this is over, we will unite again with our audience at concerts."

The aforementioned presentation called 'Classic Winds' will be broadcast next Friday, September 4, at 20:00 p.m., through Facebook Live OSULS: @Orquesta Sinfónica Universidad de La Serena, which is part of the Chamber Music Concert Series dese casa, belonging to 'A season like no other' of 2020 that is organized and executed by the professional cast in online mode, thanks to the support and financing of the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage and the University of La Serena.
