International meeting “Expanding Opportunities” will bring together English students and teachers virtually

The sixth seminar, which in response to the context of the pandemic and social distancing resulting from the Covid-19 health crisis will be held virtually, will address practices associated with distance teaching, along with providing recommendations from neuroscience to help teachers. to be better prepared.

“Expanding Opportunities” is a free early English teaching event, and brings together teachers and student teachers of this subject, both from Chile and abroad, to share the innovations and experiences associated with this era of distance language teaching.

The meeting, organized by Fundación Educacional Oportunidad in conjunction with the Pedagogy in English degree program at the University of La Serena, will focus on a combination of knowledge of educational neuroscience and cognitive psychology to help teachers be better prepared to continue with the process. of distance learning and begin to glimpse the scenario in a future return to the classrooms.

The international seminar will be held between September 7 and 11, bringing together English teachers from all over the world. Subjects and exhibitors

“Facing Post-Pandemic Education” is the workshop given by Joaquín Triandafilide, director of the Chilean Association of Neurolearning, who will address how the post-pandemic can affect the brains of students and teachers, and will provide knowledge to help them face this challenge.

“10 Tips Towards Well Being and Brain Empowerment during Quarantine” will be led by neuropsychoeducator Lucrecia Prat Gay, who will seek to help teachers strengthen their mental health, affected as a result of the contingency.

The keynote talk “Can Language Learning be Brain Friendly?” will be given by Rachel Marie Paling, founder of Efficient Language Coaching, who will talk about the findings of neuroscience to facilitate learning, considering the different needs and characteristics of students.

The meeting will have its traditional space for Chilean and foreign English teachers to share good practices with their peers and generate conversation around the learning acquired, which this year has focused on remote teaching.

Some of the topics that will be addressed are: learning through play, the use of the Google Classroom platform to conduct virtual classes, video projects, spelling bees, teaching English virtually, experiences in language teaching in pre-kindergarten and kindergarten, project-based learning and the use of social networks for distance learning, among others.
