New Executive Board assumes at CEULS

The Ad hoc Committee in charge of the election process was headed by commissioners Alejandro Orellana, José Contreras and Cristóbal Villalobos, who organized the vote remotely, complying with what was agreed upon in the session on August 26 by the entire Commission.

As indicated in the regulations of the Statutes Commission of the ULS, which has been working for a year on the adaptation of the Statute of the institution, as provided by Law 21.094, the election of the new Executive Board was carried out, after six months since the last vote.

The candidates who presented themselves were Commissioner Germán Solís Godoy, re-running for the position of president, and Commissioner Miguel Ramos Tapia, re-running for the position of vice president. Meanwhile, Alejandro Ortiz Astudillo, representative of the student body, applied for the position of secretary, which was left vacant by commissioner Cecilia Hernández, who did not seek re-election.

The election was held on September 2 in an ordinary session of CEULS, and the following commissioners were elected: Germán Solís, with 17 votes, president of CEULS; Miguel Ramos, with 17 votes, vice president; and Alejandro Ortiz, likewise with 17 votes, secretary. The three commissioners make up the Executive Board that will lead the work of readjusting the ULS Statute, from September 2, 2020 onwards.

For Germán Solís, president-elect who assumes a new term, the challenges starting today are "to make the most of the three months we have left to deliver a proposal to adapt our statutes, which reflects as much as possible the reality of our university community and allows the best governance to fulfill the role of a public institution of higher education".

For his part, and regarding the upcoming work time, Miguel Ramos, vice president-elect, indicated that "the deadlines we have are very limited and as a Board we want to conduct the work of the commission in the best way."

While Alejandro Ortiz, new member of the Board, stated that "I am optimistic about the work of the commission despite the limited deadlines and we hope that the members of the different groups use the participation opportunities that they will provide; without a doubt, many proposals to debate in the Commission".

Finally, the members of the CEULS thanked the enormous work carried out by Commissioner Cecilia Hernández, from the civil service establishment, who served as secretary of the Executive Board in two periods, as well as the work carried out by commissioners Karla San Francisco and Cristóbal Villalobos, who were part of the Executive Board supporting from the student body.
