“Law in the Current Country” is the title of this cycle that addresses contingent legal aspects and analyzes them in a reflective and informative colloquium, open to the entire community, and where the Law major, belonging to the Department of Legal Sciences of the University of La Serena shares the knowledge of its academics, delivering relevant legal information directly, through a live broadcast, via the YouTube channel. On this occasion the guest is the ULS academic and Regional Defender, Inés Lorena Rojas, who will address the topic “Femicide and the Gabriela Law”, on September 3 at 11:30 hrs.

In this regard, Rojas announced that they will talk "about how in the Superintendency of Social Security, the increase in violence against women and also in feminist movements began to think about a crime that was specifically focused on a man versus a woman." , mainly due to the fact of being a woman, femicide. Although we might think that it was already enshrined in the penal code, where other crimes already exist, such as the crime of patricide, here they wanted to give a special imprint in the sense of punishing as “femicide, the death of a woman, due to gender violence.”

In addition, the rapporteur explained the difference between the Gabriela Law and Femicide, which will be fully explained in the activity. “This crime only contemplated women who had been married or had a stable relationship. With the Gabriela law, when the crime of Gabriela and her mother occurs in the hands of a person who had been Gabriela's boyfriend, discussions begin and this crime is extended to boyfriend relationships, where there is no coexistence, there is no stable relationship. and there are no children. The protection of women from this primary level, which is the dating relationship, is becoming stronger.”

The invitation is to follow the broadcast and participate with your questions or contributions, on the YouTube channel Linkage with the ULS Environment, in an activity open to the public and without prior registration.
