“Sharing Knowledge to improve life” is at the center of the work of the University of La Serena. For this reason, the Office of Dissemination and Dissemination of Science and Technology of the University of La Serena has developed the #IllustrativeDissemination Campaign, to bring research closer to citizens.

This educational material contributes to the scientific literacy of citizens in general, as a contribution to sharing knowledge in a didactic and recreational way. Thus, encouraging the activation of curiosity, critical-reflective thinking about knowledge, and the relationship between concepts and prior knowledge.

The Vice-Rector for Research and Postgraduate Studies, Dr. Eduardo Notte, emphasized that "this space is a contribution to reach society with scientific knowledge, interest people in the nature of things and in some way provide a tool to citizens. to enter the path of knowledge and knowledge".

Illustrative Dissemination is part of the Educational Materials created by the ODDCyT, aimed at facilitating the transfer of knowledge, initiatives and information, in a language universally understandable to citizens and educational communities.

M° Alejandra Leyton, explained that there are 12 illustrations with research originating from the university and that their preparation has been possible “thanks to the support of academics who have contributed with their research, interested in sharing it with the community. There are 12 titles and each one has 5 to 7 colorful, entertaining and easily understandable plates that talk about a discovery or study associated with the territory.”

The campaign begins with research on arthropods in the agricultural ecosystem of the Limarí River Basin by entomology expert Jaime Pizarro-Araya, who is an academic at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of La Serena and a researcher at the Laboratory of Ecological Entomology (LEULS). ).

“Every day there are more ULS researchers who, in addition to publishing in high-impact journals, are trying to ensure that non-specialists know what they do, and, on the other hand, to bring their knowledge to broader sectors of the population, This is fundamental in the culturalization process of our society; The dissemination of science aims to make knowledge more universal, and for the ULS this is a commitment to our community,” explained Pizarro.

You can review the campaign on the official social networks of the Vice-Rector's Office for Research and Postgraduate Studies, and you will find research on arthropods, temporary ponds, wetlands and their birds, spiders, high-performance enzymes, the Cepedai Scorpion, dew water, fog, CO2 and Renewable energy.
