The activity included the participation of the Civil Engineering in Mining, Industrial and Mechanical Engineering majors.

In order to contribute to the mental health of the student community of the University of La Serena, the Support Program for Student Permanence, Performance, Leveling and Comprehensive Development (APRENDE ULS), of the Academic Vice-Rector's Office, carried out four activities on “Management of stress and anxiety in times of pandemic” for ULS Civil Engineering courses.

The objective of these activities was to provide basic strategies for recognizing and managing emotions related to stress and anxiety generated during the period of social confinement. The daily application of these techniques contributes to people's self-regulation, such as: controlling worries, understanding the origin of fear and verbalizing emotions which, in the case of students, helps them in their educational process.

In this regard, the Psychologist APRENDE ULS and one of the workshop speakers, Mauricio Juica, expressed: “Considering that this is an initiative managed by students for students, it is positive to highlight their active role in their search for help and in generating actions in the face of the processes that are experiencing in the current context. The invitation is open to those who want to participate in future opportunities or request workshops for their respective careers."

Along these lines, Alondra Santamaría, student of Mechanical Civil Engineering, stated: "I found it to be a super interesting and very helpful workshop, since it was super personalized and I would emphasize that it was a super pleasant workshop for one."

For her part, Sara Vargas, student of Environmental Civil Engineering, said: "I thought it was great, I think that understanding how we work is the first and most important part before solving our problems, personally I appreciate the help and I really need it , so it will be well received if they continue."

These activities will continue to be carried out for the various careers of the university, according to the requests of the students themselves, as well as the School Directors and Career Coordinators.
