Since the beginning of the health emergency, as the Consortium of State Universities, we have presented a series of measures to the Ministry of Education, with the aim of effectively supporting students and their families who, affected by the effects of the pandemic, have seen their health, economic, housing conditions, among others, have deteriorated. We proposed, for example, increasing and improving student aid, such as scholarships and free tuition; extend free coverage by at least one year; and exceptionally do not consider 2020 for the calculation of the academic progress of students with access to these benefits. Considering an increase in debt as the only solution for higher education constitutes a setback with respect to the progress achieved by the reform of higher education, which effectively enshrined the right to education.
