Network of State Ues for the Inclusion of Students with Disabilities organizes upcoming activities

The recently held work session allowed us to evaluate the current situation and coordinate upcoming activities and strategies to guarantee inclusive education.

The Network of State Universities for the Inclusion of Students with Disabilities (ESD) held a virtual meeting between representatives of 13 universities in the country, organized by the academic from the Department of Education of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of La Serena , Dr. Georgina García Escala.

This meeting took place on Tuesday, June 9, and its purpose was to inform about the distance higher education processes that are being developed due to the Covid 19 health emergency, in order to analyze curricular accessibility and share strategies, resources and materials. .

Along with this, the representatives of the state universities agreed to hold the National Seminar “Network of Chilean State Universities for the Inclusion of Students with Disabilities: A Contribution of the State Universities to the Inclusion of Disability”, to be held on the day Thursday, December 3 (International Disability Day). With the objective of publicizing the various strategies developed by the state's universities to guarantee inclusive education. In addition, to prepare a book with the presentations of this seminar, in order to systematize these experiences, highlight the advances and identify the challenges, regarding the inclusion of students with disabilities.

Finally, Dr. García reported on the activity carried out in conjunction with the Latin American and Caribbean Interuniversity Network on Disability and Human Rights, Latin American Dialogues: Disability and Higher Education (Which can be seen in the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ro6GRt0MnJI), in addition to various seminars that are held to exchange knowledge on this subject.

This inclusion initiative had the participation of representatives from the University of Tarapacá, Arturo Prat University, University of Antofagasta, University of Atacama, University of La Serena, University of Playa Ancha, University of Santiago de Chile, Metropolitan University of Life Sciences. Education, University of O'Higgins, University of Talca, University of La Frontera, University of Los Lagos and University of Aysén.

Dr. García is coordinator of said Network from 2016 to date.
