The Rector's Office's measure seeks to guarantee access to online classes for students who, due to socioeconomic conditions, do not have connectivity.

Four weeks have passed since the University of La Serena decided to move undergraduate classes to remote mode, with the aim of avoiding possible infections due to the arrival of COVID-19 in the country, always safeguarding the entire health of the university community.

The preventive measure was successfully implemented in the vast majority of the student population. However, and according to the registry of contingent needs, some 250 students were unable to have connectivity, so the institution launched a special support program, consisting of the delivery of Internet chips, on loan, to the students who required it.

Each chip has a 40GB threshold multimedia plan, unlimited service and post-threshold speed of 2Mbps, which will be renewed remotely during the months in which this situation extends as long as the student maintains their current registration for the first semester of 2020.

In an internal statement, the ULS Rector, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés, commented to the community that they are already evaluating a second phase of support, with the delivery of tablets and devices, insisting that the current situation requires collaboration and understanding from all parties to progress in carrying out academic activities.

The delivery of this benefit is carried out at the DGAE offices, on the Ignacio Domeyko Campus (Anfión Muñoz corner of Benavente), during the day of Tuesday, April 14, respecting, in turn, the prevention protocols against the spread of this virus (wearing a mask, gloves and maintaining a physical distance).
