The discussion “Equity and Gender in Research” was held in the INIA Intihuasi auditorium, organized by the Vice-Rector for Research and Postgraduate Studies of the University of La Serena, with the aim of generating a space for dialogue and reflection on the space. that women have within science.

equity discussion science2The activity featured presentations by the Ministerial Regional Secretary of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation of the Central Macrozone, Dr. María José Escobar, together with the academic and Director of the ULS Master's Program in Astronomy, Dr. Rodolfo Barbá, the academic and representative to the CRUCH of the Equity and Gender Committee of the University of La Serena, Dr. Desireé López de Maturana, who also participated in a conversation panel.

“We understand that science is not a space that stands out for having gender equality, however, it is an area that has been improving over time. That is why we seek to create this space, where we can discuss it and open the doors of science to more women,” indicated the Vice-Rector for Research and Postgraduate Studies, Dr. Eduardo Notte.

For her part, the Seremi of Science, Dr. María José Escobar, referred to the importance of this type of activities, where they talk about a topic that is so relevant today. "We are here today to talk about gender, we need these issues to be established between women and men in order to generate social change, and spaces like this are important when it comes to carrying out these changes."
