Ambassador of Women and Girls of Australia meets with the Rector of the University of La Serena

During the meeting, both authorities shared their experiences on the integration of women within society and, in particular, within the academic world.

A pleasant meeting was held by the Rector of La Serena University, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés, with the Ambassador of Women and Girls of Australia, Sharman Stone, who was in the Coquimbo Region for her participation in APEC 2019 activities.

ambassador 2During the visit, both authorities shared their experiences in working to improve women's access to education and science, along with the work on technology that has been applied mainly at the University.

“I appreciate the visit of the ambassador during this day and especially the interest she has had in the work carried out by the University regarding the integration of women within the academic world, as well as the different measures that have been implemented regarding inclusion in the school, on the way to forming a more equitable and inclusive society.”

In addition, the possibility of improving relations with universities was discussed, in order to grow contact networks, through student exchanges or cooperative research work.

The Vice Ambassador of the oceanic country in Chile, Alice Quinn, and authorities from the state campus also participated in the meeting.

Engineering Conversation

After this meeting, the Ambassador participated in the discussion “The role of women in engineering in the Coquimbo Region”, organized by the Faculty of Engineering, an activity open to the public.
