During the meeting, both authorities shared experiences on the integration of women into society and, in particular, within the academic world.
A pleasant meeting was held by the Rector University of La Serena, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés, with the Ambassador of Women and Girls of Australia, Sharman Stone, who was in the Coquimbo Region for his participation in APEC 2019 activities.
During the visit, both authorities shared their experiences at work to improve women's access to education and science, together with the work on technology that has been applied mainly at the University.
“I appreciate the visit of the ambassador during this day and especially the interest she has had on the work done by the University against the integration of women into the academic world, as well as the different measures that have been implemented regarding inclusion in the house of studies, on the way to forming a more equitable and inclusive society ”.
In addition, there was talk about the possibility of improving relations with universities, in order to grow contact networks, through student exchanges or cooperative research.
The Vice Ambassador of the oceanic country in Chile, Alice Quinn, and state campus authorities also participated in the meeting.
After this meeting, the Ambassador participated in the discussion “The role of women in engineering in the Coquimbo Region”, organized by the Faculty of Engineering, an activity open to all public.
