INEERGIAS, PROMMRA and LIITEC-ULS were part of the initiatives presented at the activity. Students and teachers from different educational establishments were able to tour the more than 35 modules that exhibited scientific innovations, technological development and equipment.

In order to bring young people and students from the entire Coquimbo Region closer to the development of science and learn about its different areas, the FITEC Research and Technology Fair was held in La Serena, within the framework of the celebration of the Week National Science and Technology.

On the occasion, more than 35 modules from different institutions participated, which showed visitors the research work carried out in the region, scientific equipment, technological development, projects, among others.

The fair, which was organized by the CONICYT Explora Program, implemented in the region by the CONICYT Coquimbo PAR Explora, executed by UCN, was attended by regional and academic authorities, as well as researchers who showed their work to the different students. who visited the exhibition.

"The link that the University has and should have with other institutions in the region is very relevant because doing science is transversal, science is not only the task of one institution, but of all. Generally people communicate in this context and They achieve alliances between the same scientists and, therefore, it is a way to grow together," emphasized the Vice-Rector for Research and Postgraduate Studies at the University of La Serena, Dr. Eduardo Notte.

The 2018 Science Festival had talks on different areas, workshops, recycling meetings and interactive games. For example, INEERGIAS, through the education area, was present to explain to all interested students the importance of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability, through a game of questions to children and young people. For the person in charge of the Education area of INEERGIAS, Sue Ogalde, these actions are relevant to bring the community closer to science and its development, being a real contribution to collaborative work and interaction with other institutions.

For its part, the Laboratory for Prospecting, Monitoring and Modeling of Agricultural and Environmental Resources (PROMMRA), of the Department of Agronomy of the University of La Serena, participated with a sample to the community on the application of technologies for resource monitoring agricultural and environmental, aimed at contributing to its good management. PROMMRA agronomist engineers, Carlos Villalobos, specialist in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and José Luis Ortiz, in charge of the Hydrometry Area, highlighted the large presence of visitors at the different stands and their interest in the exhibition. The visitors, mostly children and young people from educational establishments in the region, were interested in the equipment on display, as well as in knowing what is done with it and why.

science party4Meanwhile, the Laboratory of Research and Technological Innovation for Science Education (LIITEC-ULS), of the departments of Biology, Education and Mathematics of the ULS, showed the community the mobile applications they have developed (3D Cell Division and Meiosis 3D), both correspond to technological resources for teaching and learning specific topics in biology. These are some of the developments that LIITEC-ULS has been carrying out and implementing in educational establishments in the Coquimbo Region.

“These activities to disseminate LITTEC developments are valuable, since they allow us to diversify the instances that allow us to make known, not only to schoolchildren and classroom teachers, but also to the general public interested in scientific and technological topics, the developments that we are doing,” said the Executive Director of the Project, Francisco López.
