The objective of the meeting was to make contributions to the design and evaluation of public policies through research in the field of healthy aging.

In the facilities of the Institute of Humanistic Studies of the University of Talca, the second technical panel on healthy aging of the Consortium of Universities of the State of Chile (Cuech) was held, an activity in which the University of La Serena was represented by the Director of the Kinesiology career, Dr. Alfredo Gary Bufadel.

During the technical table, subtopics were established such as the areas of nutrition, cardiovascular approach, physical activity, neurosciences, gerontological aspects, engineering, design and environment for the study of healthy aging.

The table included the participation of 12 researchers representing the country's state universities along with the participation of Dr. Cecilia Albala Brevis, academic from the Institute of Nutrition and Food Technology (Inta) of the University of Chile. Albala explained that "although Chile is in the top 30 of countries with a life expectancy greater than 80 years, surpassing the United States, we have to find a way to reach this age with quality of life and not with dependencies or disabilities." ”.

In this regard, Christian González Billault, director of the Center for Geroscience, Mental Health and Metabolism at the University of Chile, warned that in 2050 one in four Chileans will be over 65 years old, so concrete measures need to be taken so that people can live more and better.

The objective of the meeting was to make contributions to the design and evaluation of public policies through research in the field of healthy aging.

On this occasion, the organization and coordination of the healthy aging thematic table was defined and information has begun to be shared for the participation of researchers interested in being part of this state research network.
