University of La Serena graduates 121 professionals in its Postgraduate and Postgraduate programs
The ceremony was held in the Aula Magna with an important participation of authorities and families of the 2017 graduates.
In a significant ceremony, the graduation of 121 professionals who participated in the Postgraduate and Postgraduate programs offered by the University of La Serena through its four faculties was held.
The activity included the participation of authorities represented by the Vice-Rector for Research and Postgraduate Studies of the institution, Dr. Eduardo Notte, who congratulated the graduates in his words. “On behalf of the ULS, I would like to congratulate all the professionals who today graduate from the different Postgraduate and Postgraduate programs: Doctorates, Masters, Postgraduates, Diplomas and Expertise, who together with their families, wives and husbands, were able to materialize their improvement and convert these into an opportunity to acquire and generate knowledge, around various topics that will undoubtedly be very relevant for the region, the country and of course for their professions.”
On the occasion, the authority explained to the attendees the important advances that the institution has made in research and postgraduate studies. “The ULS has strongly increased its investment in the research area, hiring new scientists, implementing research laboratories and providing various supports to researchers to develop their projects. This is how we have continued to increase scientific productivity and a significant milestone, which distinguishes ULS as a complex university, which we have accredited the institution in the area of Research. The ULS during this year has created new Postgraduate and Postgraduate programs: During this year the Doctorate programs in Astronomy and the Doctorate program in Biological Sciences were opened, with a Mention in Ecology of Arid Zones, which together with the existing Doctorates (Doctorate in Applied Biology and Ecology, Doctorate in Chemistry and Doctorate in Food and Bioprocess Engineering) allow us to have 5 doctoral programs,” he explained.
The authority added that “for the new doctoral programs (which we call creditable doctorates), the ULS has created scholarships for maintenance and fees, paid solely by the University. But also, during this year, we have created 3 Master's programs: Master in Industrial Engineering, Master in Water Resources Management in Arid and Semi-Arid Zones, Master in Energy and Environmental Sustainability, in addition the University has created 5 diploma courses; Thus, today we are taking an important step in the training of specialists in different fields of knowledge, which constitutes an important institutional achievement, since these figures represent the largest number of specialists trained by any institution in the region, during this year.
This year's graduates belong to the programs: Doctorate in Applied Biology and Ecology (1); PhD in Food and Bioprocess Engineering (1); Master in Biological Sciences Ecological Mention in Arid Zones (1); Master of Science, Food Engineering Mention (5); Master in Computational Mechanics (1); Master in Physical Sciences (1); Master in Prevention (1); Master in Latin American Studies with honors (2); Master in Psychology with a mention in Social or Health or Educational Psychology (3); Master in Leadership, Strategic Management and Communication in Organizations (6); Postgraduate Diploma in English for Basic Education Teachers (1); Postgraduate Degree in Differential Education Teacher with a Mention in Learning Disorders (1); Diploma in Human Rights Education (32); Diploma in Technical-Economic Management of Rock Blasting (6); Diploma in Cultural Heritage and Identity of the Limarí Valley (32); Diploma in Tax Management (1), Diploma in Leadership, Strategic Management and Communication in Organizations (3); Interdisciplinary Diploma in Educational Innovation (20) and Expert in Risk Prevention (3).
On behalf of the graduates, the new Doctor in Food and Bioprocess Engineering, Issis Fuentes, addressed a few words to those present, where she thanked the family members of the graduates. “On behalf of the postgraduates, we thank the University of La Serena for the range of studies it presents and highlight the effort it makes year after year in the interest of consolidating more Postgraduate and Postgraduate programs. This is also evident in the creation of the Vice-Rector for Research and Postgraduate Studies, in the infrastructure that the University has, the academic staff, scholarships and benefits for students that it has today. I attest to the efforts of academics and authorities to carry out a program, and even more so to accredit it, for this reason we hope that they can strengthen all postgraduate degrees over time.”
The Academic Vice-Rector, Dr. Jorge Catalán, representing the Rector, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés, university authorities, program directors and coordinators, academics and family members of the graduates were present at the 2017 graduation ceremony.
