A Seminar on Human Rights will be held at the ULS

National and foreign exhibitors will participate in the meeting, who will address issues such as the Condor Plan before the French justice, music in the detention centers of the Dictatorship, historical memory and gender, the university student movement, memory sites, among others.

On the premises of the University of La Serena, this Monday, October 16 and Tuesday, October 17, the Seminar "Human Rights, past, present and future" will be held, convened by the Center for Human Rights Studies of the ULS, the Corporation La Serena Deciseis de Octubre and the Unit for Memory and Human Rights of the Department of Cultural Citizenship of the National Council for Culture and the Arts.

Among the activities that will be carried out in the Pentagon Room of the Andrés Bello Campus, there is the conference "The Condor Plan before the French Justice", given by the French jurist and human rights defender, Sophie Thonon, and the presentation "Gender, militancy and memories: Political participation of Chilean women in recent history", by Carla Peñaloza, an academic from the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Chile.

A commemorative act of the passage of the Caravan of Death is also contemplated, and the reflection on the television media in the Chilean Dictatorship (1973-1990) as didactic material for the teaching of history.

The second day considers the exhibition of the documentary "ACU, recovering the dream" by the filmmaker Osvaldo Rodríguez Zúñiga, a work that rescues the memory of the University Cultural Association; the conference paper “Captive Songs: music, historical memory and human rights”, by the academic from the University of Manchester, Katia Chornik; the presentation "Cultural Management and Sites of Memory, contributions for the construction of a cultural policy of symbolic reparation", by the national manager of the Unit of Memory and Human Rights of the Department of Cultural Citizenship of the National Council for Culture and the Arts , France Jamett, among other activities.
